The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

Agreed.
Steve McNamara wouldn't even get a job coaching Parramatta let alone the current premiers.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Maybe, but what has he brought to the sport?

Very little as a player and even less as a coach.

| Quote: Mr Churchill "Guscott chickened out of playing for Bath v Wigan in the two cross code challenge matches in 1995. Not sure if he had an anti RL chip on his shoulder before that but he's never liked it that it got him christened Pussycat by RL fans. He didn't like the fact Wigan put 100 points on Bath RU in the match at Maine Road.
Probably also didn't like the fact his England RU career ended just as Phil Larder was enticed in to coach defence and then went on to help Engand RU win the RU WC, without Guscott. Anyway, just ignore Guscott and leave him to stew in his own juice.'"
Guscott in the early 90s was trying to engineer a big money move to league (think Bradford was the club) but think they realised he was simply too soft to play league.

| Leeds were after Guscott in the early 90s and they nearly got him. The outrage shown by the RFU was ridiculous (amateur sport at the time remember) and the old boys network got Guscott a job (no work involved).
The following day the papers ran it as a front page story, complete with him in his new "uniform" under the title "Jerry signs for British Gas"
It was as though he had been saved from a disgusting fate the way the story read.
Feckin hate him, not a good word to say about RL, not as though he has played it and taken the hits is it?

| A couple of interesting rugby league related questions on Guscott's weekly BBC column this week. One about poaching the Burgess boys before the 2015 World Cup, and one asking why union backs cant pass as well as league players. His answers were surprisingly measured for him. Some of the buffoons in the comments section made up for it though.
As for Mcnamara, I cant see it...but wouldn't blame him for having a go if the opportunity was there. Maybe people in the know don't actually think he's as bad as people on here do?!

| Hull KR went after Guscott when he was 19. Roger Millward was looking for a replacement for Gary Prohm & thought he had promise. One day he was a brickie playing 2nds for Bath, next day ushered into a highly paid job (think that was British Gas as well) so he could remain amateur! Amazing how these thing happen.
Hope Steve Mac gets the Roosters job. Being England coach isn't a full time job & he'll learn more over there than he will twiddling his thumbs over here.

Guscott is an asshat. His views and opinions mean nothing to me.

| Well that explains a lot about the bloke, with out even knowing this and before the anti league comment on skysports i thought he had a massive chip against the rugby league players in union.

The Sydney Roosters have lost Assistant Coach Paul Green to becoming Head Coach of the North Queensland Cowboys in 2014. So there is a vacancy at Bondi Junction into which Steve McNamara can slip seamlessly. He will be able to learn a lot from working under the NRL and RLIF Coach of the Year Trent Robinson.

I think the level of prestige associated with the England coaching job is amply demonstrated by the fact that we're seriously talking about the current incumbent getting a job as an *assistant* coach in the NRL in order to further his career.

I hope he does too. Sydney is a spectacular place, the centre of rugby league. He couldn't fail to learn more about the game working there. And he'll have a great lifestyle.
Personally, I expect him to do a Daryll Powell and pop up at the head of an ambitious Championship club.

What every one seems to forget is the people under who Steve learned his trade! Brian's Smith & Noble & Smith the younger. The Smith brothers hold him such great esteem they made him their captain & leader, they are no mugs. Just look beyond his Hull accent & awkward public persona. His knowlage of the game & its workings are second only to a very few people.
