| Despite Sheffield winning yesterday, there is no doubt that,Featherstone have been and still are the "best" team in the Championship and based on playing ability are certainly worthy of promotion.
Unfortunately, they will never be in a position to gernerate the attendances that Mr Wood & Co are demanding, not to mention their proximity to other SL clubs.
Cant blame them for having a go though.

| Automatic one-up, one-down promotion and relegation between the leagues should be introduced for 2013 onwards.
Concensus seems to be that the teams to be promoted should be those finishing top of the league in the Championship and Championship 1 (not play-off grand final winners).
Featherstone's crowd for their last league game of the season was more than London for example usually get.

| Quote: Faxhali "Im affraid in sheffields case absolutly not for promotion, it would kill off all the good work they have done, they have a fan base of about 250 people and that is it. How the hell do you expect them to survive let alone compete. They are like the littleist hobo with no home ground and mess fixtures about every single year becuase of the football season. This would make the SL look less silly than it already does which is a hard thing to do.
'"
While as an Eagles fan I agree that we're nowhere near ready for Super League, I have to take issue with a number of points:
1. The Eagles took a lot more than 250 yesterday. It wasn't thousands, but our core fan base - as in regular attendees at home matches - is somewhere between 750 and 1000
2. Sheffield United would have a different attitude if the Eagles were in SL. The whole point they got involved in letting the Eagles use Brammall Lane is that they're suppprtive of the Eagles SL ambitions. They can see potential and an opportunity to make money should the Eagles be in SL. They also have been on at the RFL about hosting big games (test matches, Challenge cup semis etc), but the RFL in their wisdom aren't keen
3. Sheffield's average attendance has actually gone up this year. I can't remember the exact figures but it's a decent rise
Obviously we need to be getting much more significant crowds if we're going to get anywhere near a licence in future. The club knows this and has been investing in marketing and promotion and will continue to do so.
Like I say, we're not there yet but things are looking up. Remember that our crowds were rubbish before we went up into the top division the first time round (and of course SL). Our attendances weren't amazing then but we were averaging around 4000. Still not particularly good, but at the time comparable to many top flight clubs (bar the bigger sides like Wire, Wigan, Leeds, Saints etc, and more than Huddersfield and comparable to Salford)

Why create a thread and then not engage in any debate and instead just continue to blindly spout bull? Do you have something wrong with you?

I can say the same about Doncaster too, we're up about 25% on last season, and a 40+% rise on 2 years ago..

Sadly, yes, there's only around five teams we've got that could make a sustainably intense competition. Its pathetic but true, and not going to get better any time soon, because we're stuck with Wood and his pals.
The cap has acheived almost nothing in respect of bringing the smaller teams up to standard.
Only hope is for Sky to step in and order massve changes to the game. Its a crying shame the game didn't have the b@lls to go through with all the mergers at the start of SL, when there was a real opportunity to set the game up for a bright and growing future. Now, instead, we've got a mostly irrelevant regular season, with weekly drubbings the norm, followed by the "business end" that's clearly so intense and spectacular that people can't be bothered turning up to watch.

Not just me that noticed that Wooden Stand doesn't actually read anything anyone else posts then. He even quoted his own post to respond to that, rather than any of the posts replying to him in the Salary Cap thread

| Quote: roughyedspud "sheffield will do no better than widnes have.....so whats the point?
cut all the deadwood from super league and have 10 teams'"
So that automatically makes the other 6 outside the regular top 4 perform? NO! Then complain about the surplus driftwood in a 10 only super league.Theres absolutely no incentive for clubs outside super league to even consider being in the only league that counts without a meaningful promotion /relegation format.
The driftwood clubs in super league are blase they arent under any pressure or desperate to avoid relegation so theres a malaise at he bottom equalled by an anti climax at the top of the championship 1(but is competitive). There should be a transitional pool of 2 lowest super league clubs and top 3 championship clubs games fitted into the normal season ,so it doesnt automatically relegate the bottom 2 SL clubs and gives at least 3 top championship clubs INCENTIVE. At the end of the next season this pool will produce the top team which coulkd be an SL that was in relegation zone the previous year or one of the previous promoted teams either way its not a cut and dried prom' rel' issue but gives 2 years .Anyway as it is its crap why dont wigansaints leeds and warrington play in their own exclusive cabal ?

Just out of interest, what in your opinion is the 'purpose ' of the Championships?

If they are seperate, stand alone competitions are you advocating promotion, or pulling up the drawbridge ?
Your make up of the 10 team SL makes interesting reading.
What criteria are you using for "qualification" to your new Super Duper League ?

| no promotion.........but when a team is clearly dominating the championship year on year then and only then should that team be considered to be moved up if they should wish to be......
as i said every year we've had different winners of the championship and every year we have morons screaming they should be promoted...all we'd be doing is replacing like with like...instead of incresing the quality of the top division..
and my criteria for my super league is the 9 teams that i feel would produce the best, most consistant and intense RL games............plus london

With your own reasoning Featherstone should be promoted now, but, why put London in ?
FWIW, Tha All New Bulls aint going to be a force in SL for a couple of seasons, not unless there is some heavy on field investment and at the moment there are other priorities for them.
