39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Does it matter? We want all the stars of our game to be high profile! I would rather a player becomes high profile for his RL playing ability rather than his RU playing abillity as well.

| Quote: Rock God X "Exactly. There's no comparison between the two at this point. Sinfield is not just a Leeds legend, but a Super League legend. That a few more union fans might recognise Tomkins is immaterial.'"
Absolutely. Ridiculous thread this. How anyone with half a mind can say that somebody who is known for been Booed by his own country, and making crude gestures to other fans, is more well known than the captain of a multi trophy winning side, is beyond belief.
Aswell as rugby league, and union, Sinfield is known by many football supporters (who have no interest in league, just sport), and even more surprising many women (who don't follow league).
There really is no comparison at this stage of their careers.

| Intresting at this point Tomkins is ahead but yet there seems to be more posts backing Sinfield! I personally think its Sinfield who is more well known, not that it particularly matters.
I was just trying to settle an argument with a mate who is a Wire fan, unsuccessfully at the moment!

| Sam Tomkins, Sky Sports.
Jamie Foster is also very marketable, its just a shame the RFL dont see this. The amount of kids who have his name on the back of their shirt is probably double any other saints player. The colourful boots, daft haircuts etc make him instantly recognisable.

| Jon Wilkin is recognised for his work in the media, been on QoS a few times, chairman of the new players union which has been in the press lately
Jamie Peacock, England/GB captain and people arent likely to forget his mush in a hurry
Sean Long, for both his performances on and off the field (and his hairstyles) would arguably be the most widely recognised player by people...but I still don't see the point what it matters??

Must be something to do with living in small backward towns where nothing happens bar the odd RL match that makes these people post drivel like this.
Kevin Sinfield has captained his club to 15 finals in the last decade, winning most of them too, i'm sure like most of us he could give a **** whether the average joe on the street recognises him.'"
I dont often agree with Rhinos, but your spot on here. With Tomkins, he craves the limelight and publicity, whereas Sinfield is happy doing his job and representing club and country to the best of his ability.
Tomkins does have the X factor, but Sinfield is probably the best club captain in the game.

| Sinfield has been an excellent servant of the game, captaining his team, and always fullsome in his praise for his opponents in any aftermatch interviews. I don't think you could get a better ambassador for Rugby League.
Tomkins is a great rugby talent, possibly a World beating one, but I'm not too sure as to his long term commitment to League. Would you really blame him for turning to Union and securing his financial future?
Despite some controversies in his younger days, I think Tomkins will develop his game and go on to greater things, and to the general public will be the more widely known of the two.
Sinfield has already claimed his place in the Rugby League Hall of Fame.

| Sinfield, Peacock have both given a lot to the sport, where as Tomkins is still a new kid on the block compared to the number of caps/trophies won by the other too.

| Neither of them are anywhere near as recognisable (on a nationwide basis) as Ellery Hanley or Martin Offiah were in their primes. And that's a damn shame for our game.

| Media training should be and probably is a huge part of getting the best people to promote the game i.e the players get there opinions / experiences over to the general public. Even the coaches do need some polishing up, take Michael Maguire's effortless on pitch interview after the warriors lifted the trophy as apposed to "dont look at the camera!!" style of McNamara and Noble. Granted for every assured performance by Buderus, Monaghan there is a Brian McClennan lurking around but if we are ever going to move forward we really need to get this area up to speed.
