Are we pinning our hopes on RL achieving a greater profile at the BBC because Big Nige might pass some media types in the corridor on his way to the Mars Bar machine?'"
the BBC are the largest broadcaster the world and have one of the largest news gathering operations in the world too........it'll do us no harm whatsoever to be next door to them

| Media City doesn't just house the BBC, itv Granada have a base there and Sky are taking up residence in the not to distant future. It is also hoped that some of the national press will re-located some of their regional bases there.

| Great idea, hope we can reap the benefits. Will be interesting to see if this particular team will be dealing with the TV negotiations rather than Red Hall as that is probably the most pivotal aspect as to whether the tournament will be deemed a success.

| It's about time the RFL moved to somewhere modern.

| Working alongside ITV, BBC, various papers and media organizations and soon by Sky isn't a bad thing.

I'm not saying it is, but without any insight into a) the cost of the new base, b) what exactly the whizz kids at the RFL are going to do to exploit their newfound proximity to the media types who have, for the most part, been reluctantly relocated to the North and c) some honest evaluation of the increase, or not, in profile that is achieved in say, six months, then it's impossible to say anything more specific than the vaguely positive sentiments that have been expressed in this thread.
Personally, given that media is no longer location specific, I really can't imagine that they'll do any better from Salford than they've ever done from Leeds; surely we don't need to be sat next to someone in an office block to build a positive relationship with them?

| I doubt they will have relocated staff if there was to be no benefit.
I don't know what the ins and outs of it all is but it's got to be a boost to the sports profile.

You don't need to be, however you cannot underestimate the value of a face-to-face relationship and contact compared to one over the phone or via email. In fact I'm sure it's critical in your own relationships so why wouldn't business ones share similarities. Also add into this proximity i.e. ten minute walk compared to hour long drive, which should also improve accessibility and availability both ways. It's a sound logical business decision and finally places our sport's HQ somewhere where it's at.

As I said previously, that's impossible to evaluate without information about cost, what they do with the so-called opportunities it presents and what changes are affected as a result.
This move could just as easily be a colossal vanity project, designed to stroke the egos of RFL gravy-trainers like Lewis, Woods and Rimmer.

No he isn't - he's also not one of those people who is prepared to accept vague and minddlessly optimistic statements about why something could, should and probably will be 'a good thing.'
Once again - I fail to see any substantive benefit to working in vaguely the same location as a load of displaced and disgruntled London media types, that couldn't just as easily have been gained from the previous base; media, PR and communication thesedays is not at all tied to location or proximity, so if the RFL have failed to make any headway in terms of their relationship with some of the mainstream media, I'd be prepared to bet that that's a result of a) their lack of a plan/the requisite skills/poor execution and b) the media's apathy and/or distaste towards the game of RL - not the fact that they never got the chance to wave at them in the office car park.
I'm not completely anti-RFL by the way, but I do believe they get some of the fundamentals wrong, to the detriment of the game as a whole.

Have you ever heard of external economies?

| Am i missing something here??
Not wanting to sound negative but arent the only moving there until the 2013 World Cup?
As i read it they are only setting up temporary base there until 2013 and then after that its on back down to closely guarded secret layer at red hall.
