| Quote: Dunbar "So what if the two favourites for 4 Nations and the World cup are New Zealand and Australia – well that’s a 100% improvement on the last three decades when it was just Australia by how many. New Zealand have injected real life into the international scene with their performances (particularly in finals) over the past 3 or 4 years'"
You mean two shock victories out of 11 fixtures ?
Quote: Dunbar "And so what if the Kiwi’s and Kangaroos are the best teams – the matches they contest are among the finest and most competitive sport on the planet and something the whole sport should be proud of'"
New Zealand have won 3 of the last 17 fixtures with average points difference between the sides is greater than 17. This is not what is classed as competitive, NZ can cause a shock and each of their victories in that period have been a shock but classing those fixtures as 'most cpetitive sport on the planet' is just plain delusional.
Quote: Dunbar "I am optimistic that we have some real talent coming through the ranks – Tomkins and Lomax are two of the best young players I have seen since I have started watching the game. Add Brough, Robinson, Roby and Widdop and the key attacking positions have some real match winning talent... more than I can remember for a long time'"
Not one of those players have performed well in the tri-nations. Even Tomkins got demoted to full back by his club boss because he was out of his depth at half back.
International RL is definitely not a joke, maybe not supported well by players and fans but certainly not a joke and in a better situation than it has ever been.

54062_1294991734.gif RLFans finest:
[quote="Saint77777":3t42372l]Maguire was a black mark on RL in this country. Whilst coaches like Daniel Anderson and Brian McLennan won championships on the back of exciting Rugby league, Maguire set out to win at all costs, evident by the way Danny Maguire was seriously injured and laughed at on the floor by the wigan players as he writhed in agony. Then there has been the constant bending back of limbs, trying to seriously maim the opposition. Even Phil Clarke has jumped on the bandwagon with his disgusting comments about the Danny Maguire incident.
I think its fitting that the 2 fairest teams in the comp, who have been on the receiving end of Wigans tactics should contest the Grand Final and make it a proper family day out instead of the knuckle dragging, salivating neanderthals from Wigan, that would pour into manchester on grand final day.
I for one cant wait to mingle with the Leeds fans and have a beer with them, rather than having to watch my arms and legs, should wigan have got there.[/quote:3t42372l]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_54062.gif |

That bit has to be a joke surely? He didn't get demoted, and has proved that he is a damn fine fullback, a position which I couldn't think of anyone particularly International standard.

Two shock victories that mean that New Zealand hold both of the international trophies on offer – I’m sure Australia would swap quite a few of those 11 fixtures to win the trophies on offer, I thought the Aussies had a winning mentality?
Quote: Thoth " New Zealand have won 3 of the last 17 fixtures with average points difference between the sides is greater than 17. I see you have misquoted me quite neatly there – I said ‘among the most competitive’ not ‘the most competitive’ – there is a big difference between those two statements. Anyway, are you denying that the Kiwi vs. Kangaroo games are not competitive sport? I bet the players of both sides class it as competitive after 80 minutes
Quote: Thoth "Not one of those players have performed well in the tri-nations. Even Tomkins got demoted to full back by his club boss because he was out of his depth at half back. '"
I agree – that’s why I’m talking about being optimistic about the future rather... i.e. it is in the future not the past
Quote: Thoth "International RL is definitely not a joke '"
If you are agreeing with the point of my post, why did you argue with so much of it?

| I'm going to wembley, not to support England but to watch the likes of slater, benji, Foran, cameron smith, inglis, thurston, Lockyer etc.
Everytime I see Mcnamara on tv say England can win the 4 nations I witness a guy who doesnt actually believe that himself. It's a joke that England are coached by this guy!!

You have a point but at the same time NZ have won the 'big games' and like it or not they are very very significant.
When both sides are on there game we do really see a great game. NZ v Australia 20 - 20 at the stoop in 2009 is the best international RL game I have seen. The intensity and skill level in that game was immense.

It's not because of the treatment Sam got at Leeds in the exile game is it.

It's played a small part in it. However I think this Home Nations format is killing the game. I actually preferred the time we were GB, and the Kangaroo tours that went with it, so much so that I went to Hilton Park, Knowsley Road, Central Park to support the home teams against the Aussies in 1982. Something that sadly is now lost forever.
RL = GB
RU = England.

When someone can play for scotland one year and england the next I really think we should just have GB. Lee Briars could play then as well!!

It isn’t the return to playing as England rather than Great Britain team that has stopped the Kangaroo tours, more that the Northern and Southern hemisphere seasons now run in parallel so the tours are logistically impossible
I loved the Kangaroo tours – the best of all my Rugby League memories and I would love to see them return (and for GB to go to Australia) but I am as passionate about England now as I was about Great Britain and I also recognise that the majority of the wider sporting public identify with England rather than Great Britain
