You are trying to establish a causal relationship that really isn't there. Tesco have more to do with new grounds popping up than any franchising criteria.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

| Quote: rover49 "Correct, these clubs fell lucky that the football club in the areas were in appalling grounds, there is no way that any of these stadiums would have been builkt had Wigan Athletic, Hull City or Huddersfield Town not needed new stadia, in fact if all three would have struggled to get licenses based on the 2008 criteria in their old grounds.'"
Actually Central Park when it was knocked down was just as good as headingly is now but with a higher capacity and more of the crowd being covered and in a town centre location. Had we not moved in with the football club, the alternative was for our own stadium on that site holding around 20k. Both Hudds and Hulls stadiums were built for BOTH the football AND rugby teams, you make it sound like the rugby teams moved in later on.
Quote: rover49 "The first 3 you mention have nothing to do with franchising - these are soccer stadiums that rugby clubs play at. The 4th is a rugby union stadium again nothing to do with franchising.
As a Leeds fans I am embarrassed at the state of 3/4s of the ground - the new Southstand has everything to do with H&S and nothing to do with franchising. The H&SE would close the stand beyond this year - looking at the design Leeds have gone for the cheapest possible option.'"
I am just praising the fact that our sport is played in great stadiums, it doesn't matter who else plays there or who payed for it, as long as RL will be played there for the forseeable future.
It doesn't matter if it is because of H&S, it will be great for RL fans to be watching the game in a better venue. Headingly still needs improving anyway, they are now behind the other top clubs in terms of their stadium.
As for poeples comments about councils etc. saying it has nothing to do with franchising.... why can't we just be thankful that some of the councils in RL towns are so willing to build stadiums for their town?

What I said was they wouldn't have been built without the football teams involvement.

| Had Wigan not moved in with the football club they would have played at The Reebok.Dave Whelan wanted to redvelop Central Park as a shared stadium with Latics, the rugby club refused. The rugby club then hit financial difficulties which meant they had to sell Central Park.Thats when they had the choice to go to Bolton,or sell out to Whelan and stay in Wigan.Franchising had nothing to do with Wigan moving grounds.
Central Park was a wonerful ground full of history and atmosphere. As the OP says,it was better when it was knocked down than Headingley is now.Leeds are living off the Cricket clubs corporate facilities,as a visiting supporter its no better than Wakefield,an uncovered terrace behind the sticks and a row of burger vans at the back. And terrible parking for cars.

Very true. The facilities for away fans needs improving. Would it really cost that much to put a roof over the large part of the terrace?

How are they the cricket club's facilities? Leeds financed the development of the Headingley Lodge and the facilities within it. YCCC didn't own the ground so didn't sink anything into the building costs.

| Sorry but that picture of Castlefords ground is hilarious, can they not afford a proper computer generated picture???
Hull KR announced their ground updates around the same time their franchise application went in, is anything actually happening with that ground other then somebody drawing a picture?

The ground work has being cleared for the east stand extension and the funds are in place. All we need to do is get the planning permission sorted. Disability spaces is the stickler.
The North stand will start being built before the end of this season with the current North stand moving to the south.

| Good stadia existed before franchising, plans to improve stadia existed before franchising, a minimum standard of stadium in order to be promoted existed before franchising - but yeah hurrah for franchising and the great stadiums it has produced

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.

There is only one sports team based there which justify and routinely sell out the corporate facilities and they don't play cricket or RU.
