Mason has been messed about far more than a player with his reputation deserves.
Rovers signed a quota player when they had no quota spot. Mason then went out of his way by travelling to Tonga to get a passport allowing Rovers to get him in on another technicality. The Tongan passport didn't materialize , again not Masons fault. Then by Dobsons injury Rovers eyed an opportunity to get him over by asking for special dispensation to de-register Dobson and get Mason over to help recoup some of the investment (wages) they'd already made. Hoping that by the time Dobson was fit again his passport would have arrived. It didn't and Mason was unceremoniously dumped on the de-registered list.
Don't blame him for talking to Toulon and he now has a nice 7 figure salary in yawnion.

To be fair to Mason, he is at the end of his career and tied down with a 2/3 year contract at Rovers. It was uncertain whether he would play this year at all.

If I was him I would be looking for compensation from Rovers on top of his wages for keeping him out of action and de-valuing his worth.

The fact that HKR thought they HAD to sign him in the 1st place speaks volumes about the game in this country.

Perhaps they may learn from this escapade but somehow I doubt it.

The blame for this complete shambles lies with Hull KR and the RFL.

Mason was prepared to change his nationality for Rovers, they then duly deregister him to bring back golden boy. One can hardly blame him for talking to Toulon. He was prohibited from approaching another RL club but not a club from another sport.

He probably could not wait to get away from the whole shambles. He's trebled his salary to boot.
