Well yes. We're not talking about promoting or relegating a club's first team between the divisions of one competition. We're talking about a club - all of it, not just the first team - leaving its current semi-professional competition and joining a different, professional, comp. So yes, the club as a whole - and the on-field performance of the first team in one of the three competitions it enters is just a small part of the club as a whole - is what's looked at

You appear to be the only Halifax fan spouting off despite the fact that your club can't even claim to have suffered an injustice. With that in mind I would also advise you to get a grip.

Let's keep it all in one place, just for the sake of tidiness.

Two teams that won their league comp didn't intially get in, yet one team that won a trophy that no one really cares about got in. Only in RL. An professional sport run by amateurs.

Get from up your own ar$e tb and realise that such viewpoints would have been held regardless of today's decision. Widnes have fulfilled the criteria asked of them and I wish them the very best of luck, but it still doesn't do the credibility of the sport any good that a side can be promoted in to the top flight without even threatening to be league champions.

How do you or I know that Halifax do not have a better application than the SL clubs? It will be done behind closed doors as usual and some excuse made up. If we are going to have the Licence thing then it would be good to have it all in the open wit each club marked on good and bad. At the end of the day there is little between some of the applicants and will be down to opinion.

It is inconcievable that the RFL declare that the club coming up needs an extra 4 months to prepare to go into SL , and then put another one in with 4 months less to prepare

Every club has known what was expected of them for how many years ?
Widnes have hit the criteria needed and had the strongest bid of all the teams involved.

I think it would have been a bigger shock if Halifax had been chosen over Widnes.
I understand your frustration but you can't start moaning now after the fact when it was almost inevitable widnes would be chosen.

You feel let down, welcome to Widnes' world, they've been shafted numerous times and i for one feel happy for them as they are finally on the receiving end of some good news.

Go back, lick your wounds and come back stronger next time round, it worked for Widnes.

I am sure you will be elated when halifax claw themselves off the bottom of the table, you need to concentrate on avoiding relagation first and foremost.
