They play in the top flight of the Pennine League
Although I'm not sure if that qualifies for your statement of "hopefully whoever wins the ' University Challenge ' next year has to play a decent amateur team before being thrown in against the semi pros"
Of course being a cup competition, there is an inevitable degree of randomness to the ties I'm afraid

Boll*cks Luck of the draw. They got that far because in Rounds 1 and 2 the RFL seeds the university sides away from the BARLA amateur sides, so they get a far easier chance of progression. And in my opinion they do that because the Challenge Cup sponsors are.........oh yes a University, who just happen to play in the Challenge Cup.

That is pretty much what I assumed had happened , sponsors once again dictating who plays where at what level , RL eh , bloody wonderful

Loughborough Uni beat (Yorkshire Premier) Kippax in round 1.
I've also seen Leeds Met beat Woolston Rovers and Leigh East in recent seasons too, so not exactly.

Or not as it would seem
Just looked and they don't play in the top flight , that would be the ' premier ' division

They were still seeded to avoid most amateur teams. Same in Round 2.

Fair enough , maybe I've just read the league tables wrong , I get them currently second in the east division , with a premier division above them
Possibly part of the issue having Universitys playing essentially each other is that the standard each year could easily drastically change as potentially you could lose a whole squad each year as students leave
Either way maybe a different format next year might be a better option

Looks like that website hasn't been updated since April 2010.

The Kippax side that played in the challenge cup was the summer team, not the pennine league team, who for the record got relegated last season.

It's the same team, no matter what Kippax tell the RFL.
