Who is that, out of interest?

Why do you assume this is new? Leeds' scoreboard has been sponsored for over 15 years, back when the ground was also called Bass Headingley. There isn't that much more sponsorship now than there was before I just think it's more noticeable. There is more on the shirts and there is often either "Engage" or some other major sponsor on the pitch but thats usually just for TV games. Apart from that there isn't much of an increase as far as I can see, it's just more prominent.

| This in a season where we have two SL clubs without a main shirt sponsor? Does any pro sports team in this country not have sponsored kit? Even FC Barcelona have finally given into it - even though there's is a £25 million per year deal with a charity.
Strange thread.

Quins v Crusaders - neither side had a "main sponsor" on their jerseys at Cardiff.

| Anybody know how much a main shirt sponsorship is worth in SL? In NRL they generally sell for $750k-1mill (475-650GBP)

| Quote: RL13 "How would anyone feel if team names where subject to change to accommodate sponsorship? e.g., Wigan Safe Style UK - Shopmobility Scooter Saints. After all, it brings the money into the sport and that can only be a good thing, correct?
A step too far one might argue? The name of a team is "sacred" to the essence of the club? Once upon a time, I thought the name of a ground was sacred, and look how that turned out; GPW Recruitment Stadium, PROBIZ Coliseum, The Rapid Solicitors Stadium, etc.
The same principle for the club shirts, which are looking more like the middle pages of a local rag with each passing season - any free spaces available, why not stick another sponsor on it.
Of course, money is vital and central to the survival and expansion of the sport, but at what cost? As at best, it appears (to me) we're a cultivating a tacky sport without regard for dignity within it.'"
Like the Pirtek Kiwis?

| The Auckland Warriors......became the New Zealand Warriors.......became the Vodafone Warriors.......but to the fans, they will always be just The Warriors!
It's like the naming rights for a stadium.......you can sell them for whatever you want, but the fans that use it will still call it by its old name. Widnes play at the Halton Stadium.....seriously, how many of their or St Helens fans call it the Stobbart Halton Stadium? Bulls play at Odlsal....not Grattan Stadium. How many Leigh fans called it the colusium? It was Hilton Park.
The game needs all the money it can get........and if it moves, stick an ad on it!

yeah we should not try and maximise sponsorship and let RU sign as many of our players as they want
sponsorships in RL are too low now.

The only instance that stadium naming rights really work for fans calling it by the sponsor name is when it's the first name for the stadium.
The Halliwell Jones Stadium
KC Stadium
Reebok Stadium
JJB Stadium and now DW Stadium
The Emirates
Coming next month is the Irn Bru Try Of The Month.

To put that in context - Emirates deal with Arsenal was worth around £100 million when signed in 2004 - and is now often seen as not being such good business on Arsenal's part.
SL teams are pretty cagey about revealing details of shirt sponsorship deals, but I think most clubs have multiple sponsors paying five figure amounts and would expect the total to still be short of the figures NRL clubs achieve.
