I think the location, rather than the timing, is what should be questioned. If you're gonna have it as a curtain raiser for the season, why not have it in the heartlands? There's plenty of big stadia across the M62, and closer to home would possibly mean more ticket sales, fuller grounds and therefore less of these armchair journos going "there's no atmosphere, it's crap"

No there are NOT.
Do not ever mention this again.
Which Football team would allow SEVEN games in two days in an uncovered stadium
Which Northern tourist board would give £500k to the RFL.
It will not happen forget it.

I prefer making threads with more than 2 hours sleep all weekend and then sitting in a car fror 5 hours on the way home from Cardiff

| So we agree the 500k figure is plucked from nowhere?
Sponsorship is an interesting one... Why isn't the MM a sponsored event?
E.g. The IPA Millenium Magic Weekend (brings in more cash!).

I seem to remember the RFL saying the Welsh Tourist board paid £2m for the first MM, but I wouldn't know where to find that link. Probs isn't sponsored because Cardiff Council pay for it.

I can imagine the answer though and if I posted it on here I would get banned.

And then ask Manchester Utd to give us half a million quid for the privilage. That's the problem, there's only one or two places that can actually host the event and Cardiff is the best I think.

I think the suggestion is that a mill comes from the event overall not that the available funding from the now 4 bodies in wales that support it has necessarily gone up.

No. It's a widely quoted figure from the events inauguration in 2007

Aye, that's the way to reach out to a new audience and lose the "insular northern minority sport" tag - hold it in Manchester or Leeds.
