| The RFL did do discounted prices at the Four Nations last year, I paid £20 to go to England v Aus at Wigan, and therefore got tickets to the final for a tenner. A package deal would be great or a rewards scheme through purchasing tickets.
Group games should be cheap, no point asking £15 plus for them, people won't go. Shame international rugby isn't more appealing, even for the die hards.

| Quote: Chorlton RL "Just seems a bit strange if it is councils (I'm not entirely sure that it is) when you consider London. Would Wembley and The Stoop make two seperate bids or just one.'"
You'd assume two, since they're different councils. I think the idea is that the local council support the event at said stadium so that the area is behind it and backs it. If it was just "London" then there isn't really a "local" element.
Quote: Chorlton RL "Carwyn Jones has stuck his hand up for Wales and suggested the Millenium Stadium. Be interesting to see if and how that one is used. '"
I think the RFL have screwed up in not having Wales in the same group as New Zealand and France. That's where the big games would have been. And that's where you could have used the MS. No point in using it for the Wales group games. And there is no guarantee they'd get through the group stages so can't really have it for the quarter finals.
Quote: Chorlton RL "All in all, the best approach is picking the right sized stadiums for the right matches and only book larger stadiums if confident. A match at Hillsborough would be brilliant, but we have to be sure the tickets can be sold.'"
Think Bramall Lane will be used rather than Hillsborough.

scotland games for whitehaven / workington as they are near scotland
these games will get no more than 10,000 and these neglected RL areas will support these well.
england games have to go to the big stadia ie 40,000 - 80,000'"
Whitehaven/Workington would struggle to hold 10k considering Haven has a capacity of 7.5k and Worky is just under 10k. Plus they are both really old grounds. Very few people from Scotland will come down for the game anyway, so it would be insignificant to hold it close to there.
Take it where it will get the best crowd.

It was banned because of the stupid chief executive at Hull City (who got sacked), not because of relegation. Adam Pearson took over and said it was ridiculous that they wouldn't fit it in, and that the stadium will host RL test matches regardless of whether Hull City are in the Premier League or not.

Unless, Wales get 'Drawn' against England in the Quarters and the match gets played at MS. That would be ideal.
Likelihood is that Wales will win their group. I think the point of their fixtures is to get them to have a good run leading into the knock outs. Two convincing wins against (probably) Lebanon and USA and a tough fixture against Cook Islands (who play Tonga). Gives the squad and the fans a bit of momentum. But, I agree, NZ or France could have been better for them.

| Quote: jonny the leyther "Just a couple of ideas.
How about any club season ticket holders for the season preceding the 2013 World Cup get a 'voucher' for any group game not involving England at the RLWC?
Also how about dedicating about 2000 tickets to schools for each group game of the RLWC? Get the kids involved in the tournament, much easier to organise with modern stadia.
On the actual stadia used, i'd try and get Old Trafford for the opening game and have England v Australia. With marketing i'd hope for around 45k from Lancashire 25k from Yorkshire, 5k from 'other' fans. I wouls also dedicate the top tier of the north stand to schools, get 5000 kids in there with flags and face painting etc. The other games that are easy to sell out would be Australia-NZ at the Stoop. All France games in the South of France (which won't happen) and England playing their other group games at the KC and DW stadiums.
Then all you've got to worry about is the other group games, i'm sure Warrington, Leigh, St.Helens, Widnes, Salford, Cas, Leeds, Wrexham (for Wales games) Huddersfield and Hull KR would get decent crowds in with a season ticket offer included.
I'd do the set up like the last RLWC so that the games are competitive and promote the hell out of it.'"
Quote: jonny the leyther "I think for smaller games perhaps a free or discounted ticket for a game at your clubs ground when you buy a season ticket for the 2013 season or renew for 2014 season. For example all leigh season ticket holders get a free or discounted ticket for a group game at LSV.
Just a thought...'"

| The one thing the RFL cannot do, is go small. We shouldnt be looking at holding any games, in any stadia with less than 20k capacity.
Headingley, DW, Galpharm, should be at the lower end of the scale not the upper.
Headingley, DW, Galpharm, KC, for the standard group games, Elland Road, CoM, Anfield maybe even St James' Park for the big group games.
the semi's should be in large football stadiums, emirates, old trafford, and the Final should be nowhere other than Wembley.
Book them now, get the logistics sorted by the middle of next year at the very very latest, start selling soon (and i mean actually selling, not order taking), some creative thinking, maybe try and sell 10k tickets at £700 a pop which gets you into all 19 games including the final, work down from there with 'mini-season tickets' 3 group games for £100, 3 group games 2 semis and the final for £500, sell group rates to Amateur clubs take up there would likely be 30 people rather than 1.
Get people on the phone to all the banks, accountancy firms, law firms based in Leeds, both universities and student unions, ASDA. Heinz in Wigan.
The Co-op in Manchester, and sell to them as groups. try and sell tickets in the thousands to them.
Group games between minor nations, have as double headers.
in total, from the 19 games, we should be aiming to sell 400'000 tickets. (21k average) and if the RFL do what they need to do, and most of all start it now 2 years out rather than 6 months out it shouldnt be a huge problem.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| A few main points.....
Tickets must be cheap, people will not go if they are not cheap as there is alot of games. We don't want people to pick and choose games we want people to attend as many as possible so we need plenty of offers for the whole world cup and for groups etc.
Towns or cities who bid must commit to promoting the game in that town or city.
Most of the games should be kept in the heartlands.
All Wales games should be played in Wales.
Tickets must go on sale as soon as possible and massive efforts and spending should go into marketing. Every single school around the area of a game should be offered tickets and massive group offers should be given to clubs etc. A much bigger version of Wigans 'big one'. Personally I wish the RFL would steal our marketing team.
Common sense must be used when selecting games and venues, Rochdale has a large population of people from Fiji, simple, play a Fiji game in Manchester and offer transport from Rochdale. There alot of people from down under in London therefore keep Aus and NZ games in London preferably at the stoop. Aus v Fiji and NZ v PNG double header! A feats of RL from the southern hemisphere!
England games should be played at stadiums of at least 25k capacity and MUST all sell-out. Semi-final and final should be at Wembley and OT or Elland Road.
Don't move games to random places (why someone said St James Park I will never know).
Keep football stadiums to a minimum, they cost money to use and will not sell-out as easily.
Lots of double headers should be used for smaller games along with some of the larger games. The opener should be a double header at Wembley or OT. England V Australia along with NZ v France. England v Ireland might not get more than 20k but with NZ v Samoa thrown in as well people might go.

We need to be more ambitious. The WC is the showcase for the game, it isnt the bread and butter. We need as many people as possible to attend, so we need as big a stadium as possible.
We need to stop looking at 10k for most group games, 20k for England, Australia, NZ group games, 30k for the semis and 60 for the final as an achievement.
You sell a minor group game, to a minor town, with a 10k capacity you will get a a small attendance.
You sell a couple of minor group games as a double header, in a 55k stadium, You heavily push it and market it as a festival of rugby league, then you get a bigger attendance.
I can well imagine a fair few clubs in heartlands, being prepared to put on a bus and take 30/40 people up to Newcastle for a WC double header and a night on the beer afterwards.

| Quote: AJ Viking "The decisions for venues is quite big but many have already been made from past experience, i.e. Wigan/Hudds/Hull for England games in the north I'd expect. The final will be at Elland Road again as a 40,000 capacity is about right with cheaper tickets to fill.
Group games we have some nice stadiums to use, Warrington, Leigh, Widnes, Saints new ground, Headingley, Salfords new ground.
'"
I agree, except I dont think Elland road has ever held the world cup final. Id keep nearly all the games in the north and nearly all of them at RL grounds, appart from the opener at Elland Road and the final at Old Trafford.
