Couldn't agree with you more.
Sadly the WCC is a contractual obligation though.
Needs changing in my opinion. What is the point in flying 12,000 miles for a one off meaningless match in a freezing country against a superleague side when they could be playing a decent trial match back home against the type of side they will be playing against week in week out?
Crazy.
But there ya go.

| You Aussies can be as aloof as you like when it comes to the WCC. Ultimately it is a great event that (unlike recent Internationals) has not been glittered with Aussie dominance.
For a nation of migrants you really are an insular bunch.

| St George Illawarra are simply getting their excuses in order.
Not organising a warm up game in the UK means SGI can point to 'lack of preparation', 'no time to acclimatise' and 'bad timing' if they lose. All typical Aussie whinges which are trotted out every time they get a pasting.

Erm... it isn't, actually. Weren't SGI banging on about 'not being obliged to play' the game only a few weeks ago?
As for quality of opposition in the WCC - look at the record books.

| It's a fantastic showcase for the sport in the UK, probably the best thing that Uncle Morris the turf accountant ever did, and a great boost for the game in the UK.
Who can forget Wigan winning in Brisbane? Widnes coming back from miles behind to beat Canberra at Old Trafford? Saints last gasp win a couple of years back?
It's a one-off game for clubs to call themselves best in the world, and its an event that RU would love to have, that cricket have tried to emulate, and that soccer wishes their version was as important.
PS - I'd expect a Sharkie to hate St George, they're south but not of the Shire, which is unforgivable...

I disagree.
I honestly don't think it does prove who is the 'best in the world'
All it proves is which team is the best on that particular night. And 90% of the time the night in question is a cold wet windy or a cold freezing one in some nondescript town in the North of England.
It really just gives the northern hemisphere clubs the chance to say they are 'best clooob in't foookin wurrrrld' (excuse my poor attempt at typing in a 'northern' accent) by beating an NRL club...who with the best will in the world dont take it nearly as seriously as people would like them to. Hell I KNOW that players from the NRL clubs have drawn straws in previous events to see who doesnt come over. And who could blame them? Who wants to fly 12,000 miles to play a pointless game in the north of England in the middle of winter?
St G**rge Ill**arra DO play south of the shire.... thanks to the Illawarra Steelers bailing their financially cash strapped árses out and letting them play down the Gong

Unprepared, amateur little clubs from a colony on the back end of the earth with small populations and small minded fans - it's not surprising that they get their excuses in quick and the players are afraid of coming and getting embarrassed.

To be honest I think its the Pommie clubs that should be embarrassed when they lose.
If a side thats already started their season cant beat a second string NRL side thats flown 23 hrs to get to a cold stadium somewhere in the north of england they should be too

| The option is always there to play it at your place. None of you have ever actually wanted to do that when push comes to shove though.
