Yes, I was referring to the potential development to come
I agree with your point regarding GB - I would like to see GB tour Australia/New Zealand again but in the meantime see England compete in the Four Nations and World cup (along with the other home nations that quality)
Your last point is an important one - should we wait for established pro teams in each nation before we develop the international game. I don't know to be honest - one argument would be that the appeal of representing your country would be a carrot in the development of home grown talent
One thing I am sure of is that sport is increasingly being measured by its international presence and a competitive Euro Nations would go a long way to show case Rugby League

Or when I'm responding to posts stating that England should select "Danny Brough and Lee Briers", I comment on Danny Brough and Lee Briers

| Quote: Durham Giant "For all of you who are judging Danny Brough from the past i can only say he sems to have been a changed person since he came to the Giants.
In respect of consitency he has performed between being good to brilliant.
There have been no petulant outbursts and he has been very much a team player. AFAIK there have been no discipline problems.
Maybe he is maturing, maybe he has responded well to his new coaches.
What i would say is he would have been worth a place on the tour.
he is yet another reason that the decision to scrap the GB title was a retrograde step.'"
Have a look at the DVD Cas V Hudds from 4th July 2010. If you class that as "good" then you are easy to please. 2 or 3 kicks out on the full, and some shocking passing.
Contrast that with Cas V Widnes Grand Final. Different class of opposition, but looked absolutely awesome.

There were 29.4 million reasons why that happened. Without the split of the home nations the RFL would not have got the development grant from Sport England.

| McNamara has stated he wanted a stable squad without people likely to encourage any misbehaviour, hence DB is Scottish again now.

McNamara is a twit. His lack of confidence in coaching 'edgy' players illustrates that he is a risk adverse organisation man. Jon Roberts and all the back room guys at Red Hall with no rugby background will love Steve Mac. So too will Sheens and Kearney!

I couldn't disagree more - Sean Long in 2006 demonstrated that no matter how talented a player is, if they are not capable of holding it together for a tournament they are a liability. McNamara picking a team on both playing ability and professionalism is to his credit not his detriment

| Danny Brough is England standard as much as Blackpool Panthers are currently Superleague standard!

| Quote: bigMAL "I've been a viewer of this forum for a long time but never felt too strongly about anything to be bothered to put my opinion in there but I feel very strongly that England have made a huge mistake in not selecting Danny Brough. I think it is widely accepted our strength is in our forward pack and to give our pack the best chance of getting on the front foot, getting good field position and dominating games in the modern game a quality tactical kicking game is essential. I don't think any of the players in the team selected will provide this. I remember seeing Rob Purdham making some terrible kicks against the Kiwis in the 2008 World Cup and their pack getting on top and totally dominating the game. I can see this happening again as no matter how good the tactics are with regards to our kicking game I dont think the quality is there to implement it. This is just my opinion but I feel we need an out and out old fashioned scrum half in our team to bring the best out of the players we have got. Of the current crop of players we have Danny Brough and Lee Briers are the two that spring to mind with Brough the younger and easily outshining Briers when the two faced up in the playoffs, I think he would have been capable of performing a vital role in our team. Just wondered if there was anyone out there who agreed with me!'"
Many thanks for sharing your thoughts Danny.

Couldn't you? Wow.
So Steve Mac would not select players like Andrew Johns or Mark Gasnier and many other world class players etc etc because he has neither the balls or the brains to manage them.
Tim sheens is not such a drip. He has the likes of carney, bird and gallen in his squad and would have had Inglis, if fit. None of these guys would get in the McNamara squad. The man is a fool.

because they're a) Australian and (in Johns' case) b) retired (as a player after a drugs scandal and as state coach after a racist comment scandal)

| Until he becomes a team player and develops some consistency (he can't be ar**d in the small games, can choke in big games and sometimes lets his niggly petulant temper affect his game) he's a country mile off being an International player. If and when he grows up and learns to control himself he might have a chance.

When people start citing the likes of Todd Carney and Greg Bird as examples of players England should have in their squad then I know the world has gone crazy
I wouldn't mind if they were world class (like Johns and Inglis) but both decidedly average
