I would probably say an absolute clear stand out at the moment. The others wouldn't even be close IMO.

Adrian Vowles 1999 managed it. Generally though it comes from a top 3 side. Although Leeds finished in the top 3 at least 5 times last decade and they still didn't win it!
I can't believe Cunningham has never won it!

| Monaghan by a country mile for me. Takes games by the scruff of the neck and really stabalises us as a side. He's been outstanding again this season.

I wouldn't say he's a country mile the best hooker, let alone the best player:
www.superleague.co.uk/statistics ... eason=2010
Different sorts of player I know and I would have Monaghan up there as a MoS contender too (would probably have him as my favourite) but there's no country mile about it.
Surprised Roby doesn't get a mention at Saints actually (everyone seems to say Eastmond/Graham/KC from us), he's been magnificent for us this season IMO, having to fill a number of roles due to our injury problems.

He makes very poor yards for a hooker especially as he has had so many more carries than Roby. Loads of missed tackles as well. He is a fantastic organiser but I'm not sure you can give MOS just for that.

Saints fans will say that.
Wire fans are saying Monaghan.
Wigan fans are saying Lockers.

| Looking at stats to decide that Monaghan should or shouldn't be Man of Steel is floored. Saying that he is just an organiser is ridiculous.
He'll definitely be a big contender, as will the Wigan players mentioned but they will need to prove themselves in the big matches at the end of the year to make sure they get noticed by their peers. Monaghan has risen to the big occasion in the last year with standout performances in Warrington's challenge cup games, particularly the final and semi-final where he was the best player in both games. His defence is tough, and his vision from dummy-half is fantastic. He's been instrumental on Warrington's excellent start to the year and it's no coincidence that we've lost the games he's missed for Warrington this year (from memory Hull Kr and Leeds away).

I'm not saying he is just an organiser but his main skill is controlling the game. He will have to come up with some more big plays in big games, maybe this sunday will be his chance to really stand out with a try to win the game.
