The NRL are so tough and strict when it comes to handing out franchises. Infrastructure, long term finances etc. are everything. The RFL just hand a cheque over and hope for the best.
I seriously hope it works in Wrexham, we really dont need more Lancs/Merseyside/Yorks clubs in SL. But if not Toulouse should come in not Widnes.
Widnes can replace Salford or Wakey in a couple of years.'"
Having wrecked one expansion side through overambition, your conclusion is that we ought to wreck another.

Basically yes that's what his lot think. They kill more expansion clubs than anyone else.
People like him care nothing for the development of the game and only care about the geographical locations of SL teams and don't care how many expansion clubs they kill to achieve this. If a club is a good club it doesn't matter what their geographical location is, this is a sport and business not a geography lesson

Yeh lets replace one failed experiment with a team that couldn't even compete in the Championship. By hook or by crook we will have expansion!!

Expansion loonies the lot of them. Yet reasoned opposition is deemed to be 'ignorant flatcappery'.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

It is quite noticeable how apart from loony Dally M most of the usual suspects are avoiding the recent threads

| We're not gone yet people.
Another thing you need to consider is the club had 3,600+ average having finished bottom with only 3 wins. That is more than harlequins managed after a much better season.
If we move to Wrexham it will be purely down to no money from the backer not lack of support. I, for one, was quite happy with the average attendance and it gave us something to build on. I was also over the moon with the youth development and players of potential have shown up literally overnight.
Let's just realise why we're moving and the fact if Samuel still had money to pump into the club the venture would have succeeded down here. Most things point to that fact other than the rubbish way the powers that be ran the club.

| The RFL loathe to admit to admit mistakes, and this folly will cost more before the plug is pulled I suspect. No-one recall the mid nineties South Welsh floundering

Yes but every other time has been a 'quick fix' set up with ageing union players or past it northerners with nothing coming through the youth ranks.
This time was different and the youth were coming on and will come on nicely. It is just sad Leighton Samuel doesn't have enough money to continue funding the club.

The problem quite simply is there anybody willing to tip money into RL week in week out , year in year out in South Wales ?
Are the RFL ' conning ' these benefactors into believeing they can break even ?
A championship club will lose money anywhere between 50 grand and 300 grand , change that to SL and you are looking at half a million to a million each year
Until the sport can finance itself it will never expand

Good point but then again football clubs lose money hand over fist in every division other than the Premier League but still they seem to survive and progress.

They seem to take it in turns then leave, when Smokey TA reduced his posting we had Big Graeme, Johnoco, Roy Haggerty and now Tre Cool come in then pull out quickly

Hurrah now we are getting to the nub of it - reality rears its head. Crusaders could get decent gates if big money was invested. I believe outside of London S Wales is the ONLY place you could fairly quickly get up to 10,000 gates BUT it would have to be with a top 2 or 3 team with a couple of big names. Without big investment forget it.

Well given that each of these endless threads is the same half a dozen people joyfully tossing off onto the same biscuit, is it any wonder nobody else wants to pop round for tea ?
It's fairly simple : there's a few people who think that Crusaders difficulties "prove" that expansion cannot take place through giving licenses to new or relatively SL clubs. Some argue it will never work. Some argue that it needs time (50 years, anyone ?).
Then there's a group of people who think that the Crusaders example proves nothing except that what was done in the case of Crusaders didn't work as well as we would have hoped. Some would argue that it was the specificities of Leighton Samuel's involvement, some that it was about location, some think it was RFL maladministration, or some just bad luck. Or all of the above.
Is there any point endlessly going round those same issues on ten different threads ?

Lots of people were happy to do so 12 months ago , now it seems half of those dont want to comment , what I would like to see is what they suggest is the best way out of this mess
