| Americans are far too stupid and distasteful for it to ever take off over there. Once the opening fireworks finished theyd making a swift exit via the burger van.

| The play of American Football is dictated by the padding itself though.
The way they tackle and the way they throw their bodies into a tackle is able to happen BECAUSE of the padding.
Take the padding away and they would have to change how they tackle.
Similarly, put a Rugby League team in all that gear and Rugby League would change. The way players run, the way they tackle....it would be dictated by all that gear they were carrying.
I think some people think the NFL is a competition played by super humans, but its not. They are specialized to a sport, they still hurt, they still bleed.

| im sure if the coverage is extended to the future the NRL can build a small dedicated fanbase. remember RL is alien to most americans so as they continue watching they will catch on to its name an rules, and hey what is the internet for? if they can find their way to twitter (whatever it is) then they can find their way to wikipedia or nrl.com or rfl.co.uk!

Only a few of those Americans seem to acknowledge that it's RL being played, and I'm worried that they may confuse it with Union or even 'Australian Rules' as one person said. Obviously it's never going to happen, I just wish we had a more easily distinguishable and marketable name so it is clearer that RL is a sport in its own right rather than a 'variant on traditional Rugby'.'" the aussie rules comment was from an ex aussie expat liveing in america . cant u read the nrl should allow usa tv access to all nrl games from this year and into the future

Indeed. Personally I'm not sure if they need "business-ready IT solutions" but it must be worth a look anyway.

| The freak is bang on with this.
I have had this discussion at work with many yanks, the tackling technique in NFL simply doesn't exist and that's why there are so many injuries.
Jumping in head first in to tackles is a sure fire way of smashing up your body!!!
But it is great to see Spike show NRL, great news!

The speed and intensity of the hitting in the NFL is among the most brutal in any professional sport, because the pace the game is played at (and the padding the players are permitted to wear) allows it to be so.
Every down is comparable in intensity to the first set of six in a game of rugby league - players flying into tackles at 100 miles per hour.

| Quote: Bulliac "It`s much more accurate to say that rugby league, rugby Union, American football and soccer are ALL variants of `football` which was played in the 19th century under a variety of rules which varied from area to area.'"
Close, but I don't count union. RL and American football are both ball control games where the objective is to keep possession and march down the field to score touchdowns and therefore brands of football in my opinion. RU depends on kicking to gain ground more than advancing the ball while retaining possession, indeed it has no rules enabling a team to keep possession for a period of time and restart play without a contest. Therefore, only RL and American football are brands of football to me.

What a strange comment.
You don't count Union because of some bias you have against the sport, no other reason.
It is a form of football as much as any other. The clue is in the name 'foot' ball, yet you don't count because they kick too much.
