| Burgess will go well, Ellis is already established.
Flanagan will do a Mathers/Tansey/Thorman/Mason and will be back in SL within 2 years

| Notice how they are all forwards.
I still think it is good news from an England point of view but I would like to see a Sam Tomkins or a Richie Myler go over there for a couple of years and see what happens.
Our backs don't have good records over there in comparison to the forwards. Richie Mathers and Chris Thorman spring to mind.

It doesn't matter if he does, he will be a much better player for it.

Yup.
Morely eventually got punted because he couldn't grasp the fact he had to tackle below head height.
Carney was reasonable .....but he was actually Irish ...and if rumours are to be believed....was 'close' to Matty Johns
Ellis is very over rated and I expect him to be back in SL before too long.

Apart from Carney being Irish, the rest of the post is a load of tosh.

Not at all.
Morely had to go.
If he wasn't injuring himself through poor tackling he was suspended.
Ellis arrived and had to be shown the basics. He is very average, despite what you may think

I think its great that slowly but surely the standards of our players are getting recognised in the NRL...once upon a time, not so long ago (the adrian morley era) its was a token brit knocking about in the NRL...next season there will be potentially 3...and possibly more in the future...
i think we have to ask the question here.....has English RL luckily turned out 3 good young lads or is grass routes and the academy systems starting to once again produce world class talent...?

| Maybe not world class talent but the potential is there.
Some of the better SL players would easily make it in the NRL but not in their current form, different culture over there and within a year of their coaching they'd be much better players than they will become in SL.
Our standards seem to be rising, i'd personally prefer the homegrown quota to be raised by 2 by 2011 mind.
Lastly I think the players coming through today, the seeds were maybe put in place 5 or 6 years ago when it was considered teams were doing nothing, in another 5 or so years I think the British game will be somewhat better off, we got beaten fairly well but I think there was 8 Squadbuilder players (in brief detail, a system set up where fans' money goes to help the development of players) in the Wire 17 last friday, thats not including the other academy products and British players, 13 of our 17 were British trained, hasnt been that way for a LONG time

so average that wests wanted to move him 12000 miles so he could play for them.
so average that he's played what, 20 games out of 23 this season?
so average that hes made over 500 tackles
so average that he's amassed almost 2000 meters
so average that he has over 250 hit ups...
which puts him in the top few at wests in all those stats...
his stats suggest hes above average, in a team that currently sits 5th in the NRL....
I presume youre an aussie?...who are generally very quick to bag the 'pohms' and very reluctant to award praise....
however, if you want to play it that way....matt king, a well respected aussie test star, has looked like he needs to be shown tha basics for a large amount of his warrington career...!!!!

Despite Wests coach saying that Gareth Ellis has been their star player so far this season?

I notice the difference in the way that gets put accross these days.
For the last 4 months or so he's been very good, not world class yet, but way above average.
Still some to make up for.

| Quote: Paul124897 "Unlikely with Burgess though. Unless a club have offered Bradford over the £500,000+ price tag on his head or suitable players in exchange (which is also unlikely) then he won't be going anyway until the 2011 season.'"
Im sure I remember reading he had some sort of get out clause where he could move to an NRL club for free.
