I might do, I might not if it mean bankrupting the club and a collapse in ignominy.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

With the highly competitive lower division and the traditionally also-ran SL teams starting to flex their competitive muscles, it seems that the RFL are doing a lot right to me.'"
The 2 nd and 3 rd tiers are indeed very competitive this year , but interest in them within their own towns is waning and will continue to do so as time goes on , in my opinion of course

How much does it need, per club? You say it doesn't need millions, but 100k is a derogatory amount. Genuinely interested, how much?

Why who is getting 100 k to be spent on marketing the championship clubs within their own towns and communitys ?
If the RFL were to allocate that amount of money per club for localised marketing I would be extrememly happy
But they are not , instead they are spending nothing to help the lower tier clubs increase their fan bases
They are spending money to have players and coaches fly over the channel every week
They are offering money to clubs for personnel with a remit to bring in extra sponsorship and investment into their clubs , but with the current financial climate and the closing off of SL it is a near impossible job , and apparently the money has to produce results or it is withdrawn
So how much per club ? well 50 to 100 K would be good [ I am not advocating this money be given to the clubs ] , but that the RFL set up either a marketing team or possible 2/3 smaller teams that can then work with a group of clubs identifying how best to help them
The Championship clubs need local fans through the gates more than anything else , unfortunatley most clubs cannot afford the personel to achieve this , and that is where the RFL should be helping

| So £1Million would be what you would want spent on the Championship? IIRC the current Sky deal nets SL clubs £1M each and I thought that Championship clubs are currently getting £100k, so that means the current deal gets the clubs in total £15M. The money you want means either 6% more from Sky or SL clubs to accept about the same amount less (what, about 60k each).
Ideally some money would be generated by televising Championship matches that would go towards this income. At the moment Sky show Championship matches for free. Where will this extra money come from?

| You could possibly have it on a sliding scale?
Plus If you're having regional marketing teams then possibly one could cover the likes of Leigh, Widnes, Swinton, Oldham, Rochdale on a budget of 150,000 for the lot?

| Would a marketing "hit squad" work?
Employed by the RFL, with 2 managers and 2 other staff, this team could liaise with the marketing person at each of the clubs below SL and offer advice, suggestions and resource to assist in the promotion of games and attendance.
This, coupled with a financial assistance package should do the trick!

Exactly what I have advocated before , clubs at Championship level cannot carry a team of staff to do this work , but if every club provided one person [ funded by the RFL say 12/15 K per year ] and these people work on a rota system at different clubs all under the control of a centrally funded manager , then each club gets either one full week per month by the team or 2 days per fortnight prior to their home games
Throw in some cash for marketing merchandise and much could be done
The RFL should also purchase and operate some form of ' roadshow ' vehicle that would visit all clubs during the season and at the same time give a cash ' buy out ' for a game allowing the club to open the gates for free to all
The ideal time for this would be prior to Championships clubs TV appearances as in my opinion all clubs should feature in one home game per season

No , SL clubs recieve 1.2 million each per season
No , the total ' prize fund ' available to all 21 Championship clubs is 2.1 million , this includes 200 K for the GF finalists , 50 K for the NRC finalists , 140 K for the Co op sponsorship paid for TV matches only , around 200 K to easyjet,Ryanair,BMI baby,Hotel bills, coach transfers per season to have Toulouse in the competition
So this leaves around 60 K per club that has to be spent on key F/T personell even if the clubs dont need these personell to operate F/T and there are also certain targets these people have to meet or the money can be withdrawn
Do not believe all the ' spin ' put out by the RFL
The money is there , it's just the RFL dont understand what they should be spending it on
