| I think it all comes down to the underlying jealousy of English fans. They don't like people in the British game to become too much of a success.
We saw it with Adrian Morley, the best English player in the last 20 years, they hate him.
Keep in mind Stevo was a British great. Incredible record in England, was great at Test level and a WINNER, he was one of Penriths greatest players of all time, the bloke is a living legend.
That thats before you look at his amazing career in the media and all the work he has done for the game.
Not many people know that without Stevo, there is no sign of Rugby League at the George hotel in Huddersfield.
A living legend and a winner.
The Poms hate him.

...sorry, but Stevo is actually a cockney and is very well liked by most BroncoQuin fans I know. He stood (on more than 1 occcassion) a round in the Griffin when we played at Brentford.!

| I think the issue with Stevo is that his commentating is often blatantly contrarian e.g. you'll clearly see a player have the ball ripped out and he'll claim it's a loose carry, or a player will clearly drop the ball backwards and he'll claim it's a knock-on etc... These are just generic examples, but the underlying trend is that he regularly takes the opposite position to what is factually evident, and he apparently does this deliberately to be controversial.
Now, I'm far from convinced that he actually believes some of the claims he makes, I think he knows full well that some of things he says are complete nonsense, but he does it knowing that it will infuriate viewers.

| Eddie Hemmings should really be doing a studio presenting role now, I think. Give him a game show or two as well - he'd be good at them.
What I used to like very much about Eddie was that his commentating style is more journalistic as opposed to an accurate verbal representation of what was going on on the pitch. But, like your wife, what you used to find endearing becomes an annoyance over time.
His style was suitable when it was literally him and Stevo in the commentary box and the only banter that could be had was between them two. Now there are four of them in the commentary, so what the commentary now needs is a professional lead figure doing the technical commentating, whilst the other three offer their opinions, otherwise it sounds like a pub discussion. Dave Woods would be great for this.
That said, why does the commentator have to be a specifically league person? In Australia, commentators often call many different sports. A professional commentator will be able to describe the action, sound enthusiastic, AND lead the summarising team for their opinions and technical analysis. Darrell Eastlake did this perfectly. John Helm and Clive Tyldesley, both predominantly football men, did good jobs for their respective RL shows in the 80s, so why would the same not apply now?

| I think some of the younger members don't realise what was on offer before Eddie and Stevo. They have taken the sport forward a long way from the BBC and Scrumdown days.
Stevo irritates me sometimes but I'm happy with them all.
Clarke and Cullen are excellent in studio and as summarisers. Offiah I don't really care for but he's a name.
So I'm happy with them, especially as there is no one better on the horizon.

| The problem with Eddie and Stevo is that they dominate the coverage of Superleague to a ridiculous degree, there's no respite from them. Its time for a seperate presenter in a studio, the guy who did the World Cup was fine
I like Eddie, he's funny and entertaining, he just needs someone next to him that can offer an insight into the game. I'd get rid of Stevo, and Terry O'Connor, and when Brian Carney retires I'd give him the Stevo role
