| Just realised the answer to my question is no. God that is the most confusing play-off system I've ever seen!   |

Say in theory Saints finish 1st, Leeds 2nd. Both win their qualifying play off and go through to the qualifying semis along with 2 other teams.
Could Saints choose to play Leeds thus denying Leeds home advantage in the hope of knocking them out before the final and leave the other two lower ranked teams to play each other?

No- I thought that Saints/ Leeds would only get the choice between the 2 Quarter Final Winners. If in week one Teams 1 and 2 win in the 1V4, 2V3 games, 1 and 2 are in separate semi finals. 1 gets to chose which team to play out of the rest

Yeah they could do that if they want. I was thinking about that also. I think it would be a pretty good idea, myself. Saints would have home advantage against their biggest threat rather than neutral "anything goes" area, leaving them for the best possible chance to win the final against a lower-placed team (and the chance for someone else to have a go!). |

It doesnt work this way in either the NRL or the AFL system.
If you lose in week one you lose your first place ranking for week 3, like how last year Melbourne lost against NZ Warriors and so had to go away to Brisbane even though they finished about 3 places above them.
As far as I was concerned the 'table' was reranked after every week, hence why your final playoff place determines your prize money so if 1st loses and 2nd wins in week one they become the new No1 and 3rd becomes the new No2.
I could be wrong but all the other McIntyre systems work like this and I think this is the way it SHOULD be'" but if u lose twice how do you make it to week 3   ................  |

If third placed wins in week one they shouldnt have to go away in week 3.
Secondly if 1st loses in week 1 then gets through week 2 they shouldn't then get their pick of the opponents in week 3, that should go to the highest placed winner of week 1.
