As far as I can tell there are less than a dozen of us, two post on this forum! When I talk to the locals, they don't care about either code, but generally have a dislike of league for no particular reason. Birmingham is endless suburbs with an endless lack of enthusiasm for anything and a massively over-expensive centre.
Cov would be better than Birmingham, though the two sit on each other pretty much - trains to Cov are about as regular and fast as trains about Brum.
So, what did the RFL do then? |

Although i would love to see Rugby League on my doorstep i*m afraid i agree with Belgium.There is no-one who cares for the game down here,it*s a football hotbed with West Brom Villa and now with Wolves and Brum promoted it*s getting worse!!!!!!!!!Walking around in town the other day with a St George Ilawarra top on and someone asked me about it and i told him then he started talking about Leicester Tigers and Bath,,,!!Still i don*t mind driving up the north,it*s only 2 hours to most places...

Coventry you get more, but it tends to be just at the level of watching SL on television, but that may mean people would watch a SL on the road. Rugby union's much bigger in Coventry than it is in Birmingham (when you factor in population) as it's a big sport in the southern half of the midlands, but Nottingham are the only big (ish) club in the northern midlands. Although also the southern side of Birmingham (i.e. around Moseley) plus nearby Solihull RU is bigger than in northern Birmingham

20 miles apart, so not quite, but train service is very good. Wouldn't work for MM though as the biggest stadium's about 30,000. If you're looking at a semi-pro club starting then the best bet's Nottingham by far.

Expel Nottingham City from the league. They arbitrarily decided mid-season one year they'd chuck out the bottom 3 teams. While they did get to join the National Conference League (which wasn't part of the RFL's original plan, but BARLA didn't want to leave clubs without a suitable league) they lost most of their players due to not being able to pay the wages anymore in what was effectively an amateur league. |
