Quote: Mars "That's in [iyour[/i opinion, Wellsy.'"
Which is why I said arguably.
Quote: Mars "In addition, the fact that a player played in a better [iteam[/i does not necessarily imply that they as an individual had a better season. Did Craig Bellamy have a better season as a non-key player in a strong Liverpool team in 2006/7 or as a key player in a fairly average West Ham team in 2008/9?
You are over simpifying. It may be true for Vella and Cooke (and possibly for Newton and Galea) but many of Rovers key players last season were not key players at their previous clubs. Don't be so certain that your opinion is the right opinion.'"
I aren't certain that my opinion is the right one, which is why I said arguably.
But going on what your opinion is of a better season (being a key player rather than a bit part player) that rules out most of the players that I have said did have a better season. The youngsters have probably had better seasons in worse teams. Some have played very little rugby this year and so definitely wouldn't be classed as key players. You can't have it both ways.
I would say (IMO and apparently the opinion of others) that because these players have achieved more in their careers than last year, they have had better years in their careers. I think you've been extremely biased in your assessment of some players (Gene especially, who played 21 games in the SL for Bradford in his stint there AND in the WCC scoring a try so I wouldn't call him a bit-part player in the slightest).
Quote: Mars "Is that an order or just a recommendation?'"
Who am I to make orders? If you don't want to be criticised, get your facts right. Seems like good advice.
Quote: Mars "I personally don't have the time or the inclination to research in detail every single point I make for fear of criticism from the likes of you or anyone else. I honestly couldn't give a monkey's. I am a little surprised that you think I might...
Just to clarify, the [ipoint[/i I was trying to make was that Hull KR probably overachieved last season. That is my opinion. I have agreed that the comment that followed was probably [islightly[/i over the top but it wasn't intended to be taken quite so literally.'"
If your trying to make a point though, things are going to be taken literally (especially if it's to degrade someone/something). If you have to exaggerate a point to make it, the point gets lost.
Rovers finished 7th, which to me isn't really much of an achievement. They were well off the play-offs points-wise and 2 points off 10th. They certainly had a better season than previous. Where they better than Huddersfield, Wakefield and Harlequins? Well they didn't beat any of them three teams in the league so you may have a point!
opinions are like f@rts, we all express them occasionally.......we don't mind our own..but we generally find other people's distasteful
