| Quote: Jonesy "He played pretty good for his first game.
Whether he can sustain it week in week out as he gets targeted by the other teams hit merchants will decide how he is judged over a season.
The other players you mention would have to back themselves to be judged on how they would go.
Several have talked about testing their arm in the NRL McGuire in particular without doing anything about it and signing long term SL contracts.
Pryce is average in my opinion. (brittle and goes missing entire games)
Long and Peacock are on the way down.
The players mentioned above should have had a go when they were at the top of their game, they showed bugger all in last years World Cup.
Gleeson is a current Test centre and wanted a move to the NRL but got no offers.
"Mason, Edmondson and Sibbit " did these players move to the NRL? I have never heard of them, did they get any game time.
Mathers was an up and comer supposedly when he joined the Titans and played 5 games before injury. (then he quit)
Next you will be saying Wellens is "World Class"
sibbit played 19 games for the storm in 2002 before coming back to warrington. Where we had him out of position in the centres pluggin a gap as we were before he left us.

You dont need to 'test' yourself in the NRL to know your a good player. The players i mentioned are class players. Thats not an opinion it is a fact!
Put it one way, Paul Wellens is 'not' World class but his a hell of alot better than the likes of Luke Pattern and Rhys Wesser who are number 1's for their respective clubs in the NRL (Bulldogs and Souths). However he is nowhere in the same class as your Slaters and Stewarts.
The point is most decent decent super league players could get a regular spot in an NRL team, thats not saying they're world class.

'"
Fair point.
Not sure if I would take Wellens over Pattern, maybe Wesser who has been at a dud club where its hard to shine.
More English players should have a go at the NRL, if they went ok it would most likely increase their dollar value when they return to SL.

nowhere near the truth. wellens is nowhere near the class of wesser and especially luke patten.

a lot of decent super league players could definately play in the nrl, it would be great to see a few more out here, even if it just for a couple of years.

| By the looks of it Gleeson will be out there next year.
Shame because it'll be hard to replace him. Talk of Joel Monaghan but he's not in the same stratosphere as a centre.

Where is Gleeson going?
He has one of the worst try scoring records at Test level against the Southern Hemisphere sides ever.
Ordinary could be his middle name and if he could have two name unfit might be the next.

He's asked for a release we are led to believe at the end of this season.
The local paper did a bit of an interview with him mid way through last year.
I'm guessing you don't see a lot of him to be honest because while he isn't quite as quick as gasnier or as strong as Inglis put him in a 2 on 2 situation in a tight space 95% of the time a try will be scored.
If you don't rate him fair enough but I watch him and Matt King (who was rated in Aus pretty highly) week in week out in the same team. King isn't fit to lace Gleesons boots.

| I've argued this before and I'll do it again, the two competitions are almost completely different in style and nature.
I Accept that NRL is a higher standard competition than Super League, but people need to understand that being a superstar in one competition doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to cut in the other.
There may be exceptions to this rule for players like Darren Lockyer etc.
But there are numerous examples of players who have been superb in the NRL being unable to make an impact In the Super League.
There is every reason to believe that the same would be true Of Super League players.

| I bet a lot of it comes down to playing and training with confidence in an environment you're used to.
Why has Monaghan turned into a player that can't, well, play. I doubt he's training poorly. Probably a confidence thing.
