David Howes, is that you?. Seeing as it is you dave could you tell me why gaz didn't come to Wakefield. I heard they offered him too much money, and he said he didnt want to be greedy.

| Howes reckoned every club went in for him, well i'd of loved to see what widnes would of offered. Dennis Betts with his Macho Man Randy Savage voice down the phone, " We need you Gaz, ooooohhhhhhh yeah we need you".

| For all those assuming Ellis took the biggest pay day, it was confirmed by Hull FC's James Clark via twitter that the Hull deal was not the biggest offer on the table.

How does he know what other clubs offered?

It was the 2nd biggest behind the offer Widnes made.

Can't see anyone out of Wigan, Warrington, Leeds or Saints putting in a big bid, though I'd be surprised if they hadn't shown any interest.
For example, would have loved him at Wigan but he was probably asking a hefty sum and our pack situation doesn't need him.'"
Why have so many people assumed that Hull have offered him the biggest pay packet?
"Best offer" doesn't mean "most money". It's in the public domain that other clubs offered more.
It's amusing seeing some of the "big" clubs acting condescending towards us, saying that the only way we could get him is by offering him a huge pay packet, and that they didn't need him anyway as the already have plenty of quality back rowers. Hull have Manu, Tickle, Westerman and now Ellis in the back row. someone's going to be either on the bench or in the front row next season!

| It was widely reported that Ellis went from Wakefield to Leeds for less money, in order to win stuff.
Not sure about when he went to Aus, but that was just about him playing in the greatest RL competition.
If what’s been touted about on here is true, he hasn’t gone to Hull because they are the biggest paymasters, however, the biggest financial offer surely came from a club, he believes, isn’t going to win squat in the next few years.
But, if he still wants to win stuff, why take a punt on Hull?

I expect Ellis/his agent told Hull FC. Having negotiated between multiple job offers before, I certainly let all parties know what was on offer elsewhere.

| Anyone with half a brain can see the ambition of Hull owner Adam Pearson. He's already done the impossible by guiding Hull City to the premiership. It's not exactly a stretch to think that he can actually make something happen at Hull FC. I'm not sure why people are having such a hard time with this.

Funnily enough, nobody bothered to share those details with me.

Arguably a pedantic point, but Pearson did not take City all the way to the Premiership. Most of the way and was then there to help pick up the pieces.
Fans tend to be sceptical of the grand plans of rival clubs. Even their own if they're wise and/or miseries. This signing will be a big step towards diminishing that, but it won't remove it totally. Hull have been on the verge for a while now, according to their more optimistic fans. This time I think there might be something in it, but others maybe need more convincing.

| Well I don't know who offered what, but well played to him I rather he goes somewhere else than Leeds and spread the rugby talent around, makes for a better competition. Same reason I was happy rumors of Rangi Chase to Leeds didn't come true I hope Cas build a team around him and become more competitive.
He says he didn't do it for the money, maybe he wanted a combination of money and chance of winning something. Maybe Hull offered a lot more money than other clubs capable of challenging, but there was another substantial offer from say Widnes or Cas that he turned down Just a thought!
Either way great player deserves his money (a pittance compared to football for putting his body on the line). Good luck to him!

To be fair if Cas or Widnes offered me a bit more than Hull, I'd probably take Hull.
Clearly, he's gone to Hull 'to win things'.
