The responsibility the game has to make sure that everyone knows they are welcome in the game, that Cockaynes views arent widely held and are as disgusting to the majority of people within the game as they are the majority of people within the country.

I agree that he is allowed to believe anything he likes – we live in a country with freedom of speech and that is a right that we protect. I fully respect his right to have an opinion, it is the actual opinion itself that I find abhorrent

As for the OTT reaction, I read earlier that Cockayne has over a 1,000 friends on Facebook, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those were friends as they are fans of Hull KR and if this is the case then Cockayne and Hull KR should be aware that Cockayne is representing the club he plays for on a social media site

What he wrote is not in a grey area, it was extremely strong racist abuse. If I was in a senior position at Hull KR then he would be dismissed for gross misconduct

It is an insult but i do find it interesting that there seems to be hysterical reactions around abuse that has a racist slant to them but even that can be percieved worse with regards to certain races, my guess is that if it was a scotish taxi driver and he was described as a celtic c*** the reaction wouldn't be of the same scale. And if he had said the ginger c*** even less would have been made of it but the guy was calle a c*** in each situation.

I agree with your logic on the scale of reaction regarding slurs of race. In fact, somewhere in the deep recesses of this forum there is a thread where I say that it is strange that we are not allowed to comment on the colour of a person’s skin but can remark negatively about somebody having ginger hair (maybe there is some inherent racism in our society and nature abhors a vacuum and all that - although I hope not as I have more faith in society than that)

As it happens, I do feel that the second word in Cockayne’s insult is particularly important as it emphasises the spiteful nature of the first

And as I said, They are avoiding responsibility. Fans are part of the game. To promote avoiding dealing with racist views within the game, they are avoiding the responsibility to the game and not helping the game meet its responsibilities.
