The Hull amateurs/youth teams have over the years wiped the floor with the best the other counties have to offer. The problem is when the two pro clubs get them they use them then dump them.
The only constant is the people in charge at the two clubs whose job it is to identify talent and nurture it. It would seem for the last 10+ years Hull does not have any talent...or do the people who are supposed to identify the talent, don't know what talent is.
Fans from other teams will use any excuse not to travel to either of the Hull teams, if it's not the distance, kick off times and days, work, holidays, finance, it's the intimidating atmosphere and chavs, now they have moved onto pricing. |

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

Welham really is awful isnt he, saying he is a turnstyle hardly does justice to how bad his defence actually is. He must be related to McNamara, that can be the only explanation for geting picked for the England squad. |

Phil Clarke said it live on Sky on Saturday night
Interestingly he was having a go at Wigan on Friday night for using Gelling and not giving British youngsters a go and then on Saturday night was having a go at Hull FC for not having any local lads to cover at full back and having to bring in a Wigan lad.  |

I thought Clarke said Hull should have had a young lad ready to step in (which is daft considering McKinnon has just left and Horne is presumably injured) not that Hull produce NO youngsters. Which is what Easty said. I think Easty was getting a little tetchy over comments on this thread about the current & historical lack of Hull & Hull KR academy players making it in the first grade.

Correct, he did say that. Obviously without considering that our first choice FB had gone home, 2nd choice was injured and 3rd choice was playing stand-off. I suppose we could always have thrown another 18 year old at the game, just to please Clarkey.
I'm still at a loss as to the problems with player development in Hull though. At amateur level we can produce players that can more than hold their own against the best that the West Riding, NW Counties and Cumbria can offer but something goes redically awry once they enter the pro-system |
