Oldham & Rochdale could be a go-er , call them North Manchester.
Swinton are a Salford Club & so Salford/Swinton could be done in new stadium more centrally located.
Cas/Fev/Wakey = never gonna happen.
Wigan/Leigh = Never gonna happen.
Hull F.C/Hull K.R = Never gonna happen.
Wire/Widnes = Never gonna happen.
What about London/Hemel ?
Cumbria could work ( & probably needs to )

Quote: Willzay ""Make a profit" ??
Is that why you sold you best player "cash upfront" to Wire a couple of seasons ago.
Also, how much of the Fulton loans are still on the books or, were they written off when he passed away ?
Having a wealthy guy to take care of any losses seems a little different from being "in profit".
Agree about competent on the field and not sure about the use of the cap and any marque player(s)
The cup run and hub cap have certainly helped and well done on those.'"
Key there is where your ill informeed wakey pal put speech marks in between “make a profit “.....
Hope this helps you when you ask me to do your research that you couldn’t be bothered to do in future

| Quote: wrencat1873 "I fully understand the sentiment in your post, however, if you cut out the 2nd and 3rd tier of the sport and rely on club academies to prepare players for SL, you will kill the sport, you would also massively alienate the fans who do attend those games and whilst some may drift towards their nearest SL club, the majority of them would be lost to the game and probably their kids and grand kids as well.
We need the whole RL pyramid to be as strong as possible, all the way through the amateur game, right up to SL and International level.
If you take out one or 2 levels you would kill the game.
Yes, there are ageing players in The Championship and League 1 BUT, there are also young kids learning their trade.
Many SL sides have players on dual reg at Championship and League 1 sides. Should they sit in the stands and vegetate or maybe just chuck them on the scrapheap if they haven't made the grade at a particular point in time.'"
All true.
Let's take my club Leigh & say that a merger with Wigan is forced/foisted upon Leigh, what would happen.
Roughly at Championship level that is 4,000 lost fans to the Pro game, at SL level last year that's roughly 5,500 - 6,000 lost to the Pro game. Where do those fans go ? Not Wigan *who will still be Wigan* but maybe 300 - 400 to both Leigh Miners & Leigh East, so the town Amateur Clubs gain maybe 600 - 800 fans between them but potentially 4-5k lost from Leigh Centurions, net loss to the game of 3,200 - 5,200 !!! Worth it ?

Well said. I can see the 2 expansionists on here, with their 17 accounts ...... head spinning for a reply

There wouldn't be 3 better off, there would be 1 & thousands of lost fans to the game !

Bit of a difference between being bitter and being ill informed. Also a bit of a difference between "fans" and "fan". HTH.

If Leigh merged with Wigan (which they won’t) but what would happen is Leigh would just reform in the same way Sheffield and Gateshead did

| Quote: Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza "The game needs a massive shake up if it’s not going to die. A competition that embraces the sport’s past and the brave new world.
Superleague needs the teams below - properly funded and supported by feeder teams in the lower divisions or it will wither and die. Time that selfish people stopped thinking about themselves.
Toronto
Toulouse
Catalans
New York
London
Coventry
Newcastle
Bradford
Leeds
St Helens
Wigan
Plus merged teams:
Merseyside (incorporating Warrington and Widnes)
Warrington Cheshire & have more in common with Greater Manchester than Merseyside. Wire are a top player in the game also.
Widnes Cheshire but have more in common with Merseyside culturally.
Fax = Greater Manchester I like my trips to Fax & rate their fans as some of the very best in the sport but neither side of the pennies would ever accept that & neither should they.

Also true, maybe even as an Amateur Community Club & is still possible.
