| Really? If you take away the Wigan fans happy at a win and the KR fans happy at an FC loss, the consensus is that that was the worst cc final in living memory.
It was, just accept it, taking the stance it wasn't is more embarrassing.
It's nothing to do with it being Wigan, I've seen some cracking entertaining finals involving Wigan.
It was garbage, the defending wasn't that good as both teams just played 5daak or coughed up.

your talking nonsense i cant remember the last time we had some much possession in the opposition half or even 20 meters and not score more and we kept them to nil.
hull was battered by our defense and in the second half they was gone and then started coughing up the ball.

There was plenty to like if you actually like rugby league rather than just liking tries.'"
The only thing I can remember from the game was the Charnley chase back end dislodging the ball and thats about it.
Can you give us the "plenty of likes" during the match, as a rugby fan I,m struggling on this one.

Pretty much anyone bar Wigan RL fans that I've read/heard, including pundits, commentators, friends, journalists have described the game in a negative light. Let me pick out a few quotes for you from the media:
"error-strewn contest"
"game effectively ruined by the weather"
"let down by their handling at too many key moments"
"both teams adopting safety-first tactics because of the conditions and errors commonplace"
"The unforced errors piled up as Hull tried to stage a late revival"
"hapless, error-strewn game at Wembley today"
"arguably the worst ever showpiece"
"disappointing final, which failed miserably to live up to the classic of 1985"
So basically, if you like lots of spilt ball and one man drives, it was the game for you. Or maybe it's because you're a Wigan fan.
Don't get me wrong, I love RL, but I'm not going to big up a crap game.

The consensus of RLFans, that bastion of rugby league positivity.
The defending was great. Hull had done their homework and shut us down with near perfection. Any game in which the defence shuts down practically all avenues of attack will be lamented as crap by lots of people, because sadly lots of people don't like to see great defence, they like to see basketball end to end scorefests.

| What was the completion rates? I thought both teams attacks looked stunted and unimaginative. Little block play and far far too much turn over ball. One of the worst games I've seen in years.

I'm not bigging it up, but I am laughing at the idea that it was the worst final ever with no positives. Watch Hull come out of the blocks in defence and read our attack, watch them defend a ridiculous amount of sets on their own line after drop out after drop out. The irony is that if the defence hadn't been as good, people would have felt more entertained.

I love to watch a good tight game, I remember Hull KR vs Wigan at Craven Park which ended 6-4 to Wigan, GB beating aus 8-4 at Wembley. I also remember Hull KR losing at home 1-0 to Barrow which wasn't quite so enjoyable.
And yes, Hull defended well, but their attack was abysmal. Wigan did just enough to win, I'm sure if Hull did manage to score, which was very unlikely seeing as they couldn't keep hold of the ball for more than a few tackles, Wigan would have upped the tempo. Wigan had the game well under control and Hull couldn't do anything about it.

Will you accept that Warrington have the largest contingent of thugs in super league? Are you honest enough to admit that, or are you touchy?
19 accept it

I really doubt we could have just upped the tempo. We were doing the best we could in the conditions, we ran all our favourite plays and Hull shut every single one down. Take away the last minute Tomkins try and our only other try came from a dropped ball that happened to bounce our way (not taking anything away from Thornley's great finish). If we could have simply upped the tempo to score more we would have done.

It doesn't really matter anyway seeing as Hull couldn't keep hold of the ball, they could have played for another 80 minutes and not scored a try.

It was the worst final that I have watched but that was simply because Hull kept dropping the ball and so kept ending the contest. Yes, their defence was superb - and it was. They silenced Tomkins for example (which pretty much silences your attack) but that is only one half of the game and everyone watching wants to see a competitive match. Hull kept on undermining that by dropping the ball unopposed. They have some chokers in their team.
Ironically, the one player the RL media obsessed about prior to the game in Jamie Shaul ('should Gentle take the risk?') was Hull's best player. The youngest and least experienced on the field showed the most balls. Had his more experienced team mates done likewise then whatever the result and even if only two tries had been scored all game, the match would have been 100% more enjoyable than watching one team ruin it time and time again through their own irritating incompetence.
