Quote: SmokeyTA "Paul Cooke is not a fantastic player, he is one that on his day strays in to being a good player, but that is far away from a fantastic player.

He has failings in his game (he is probably the worst running S-O in SL), he should be embarrassed about his fitness and an awful attitude,

a fantastic player would be at the top of his game for 5-6 years minimum, not the 6months that Paul Cooke has managed in his career'"

Thats your opinion for what it's worth, which is no more or less valid than mine. I actually think Cooke is one of the most natural footballers in the game and a fantastic player when he wants to be, that is my opinion. The fact that he can't be bothered to reach his true potential is not relevent However as I clearly stated his attitude stinks, which is why he has all the failings you mention and is not the player he should or could be.

Finally to rectify your massive contradiction - with the attitude Cooke has then clearly he must be a very talented if he can stray into being a good player - even occasionally. There are players in RL who have the perfect attitude and fitness levels who never even manage to be be as good as Cooke is on his good days.

I hope you manage to get my point without this ending up in one of your tedious quotathons - I really don't have enough heartbeats left for that.

If my Auntie had balls she would be my uncle.

There are players who dont come close to having the natural abilty of Paul Cooke who go on to be much better players than Paul Cooke simply because they are fitter and have a better attitude.

Could Paul Cooke have been a fantastic player maybe, not in my opinion but maybe, i still think he naturally very slow, and in this day and age an intelligent defence can nullify his threat safe in the knowledge he is never going to be able to run at them or take them on, however fit he is

is he a fantastic player? no, he isnt close, imo he doesnt have the natural attributes for it, doesnt have the heart for it, isnt professional enough, probably isnt intelligent enough, and hasnt built on his game from the last decent run of form he had which was nigh on 3 years ago now. Had it not been for his controversys he would barely merit a mention

Yeah, it is rather long for somebody from Wakefield to read, its probably got some long words as well,

Ah well, worth a try, nothing ventured and all that

Quote: Mars "That's in [iyour[/i opinion, Wellsy. It's no more valid than mine. Did Crossman, as an individual, have a better season as a fringe player at Melbourne than as a regular with Hull KR? Did Gene, as a fringe player at Bradford? What about Menzies and Gommersall who make your list but played the only SL games of their career last season. It's arguable that David Mills has [iever[/i had a good season at this level.

In addition, the fact that a player played in a better [iteam[/i does not necessarily imply that they as an individual had a better season. Did Craig Bellamy have a better season as a non-key player in a strong Liverpool team in 2006/7 or as a key player in a fairly average West Ham team in 2008/9?

You are over simpifying. It may be true for Vella and Cooke (and possibly for Newton and Galea) but many of Rovers key players last season were not key players at their previous clubs. Don't be so certain that your opinion is the right opinion.

Is that an order or just a recommendation? I personally don't have the time or the inclination to research in detail every single point I make for fear of criticism from the likes of you or anyone else. I honestly couldn't give a monkey's. I am a little surprised that you think I might...

Just to clarify, the [ipoint[/i I was trying to make was that Hull KR probably overachieved last season. That is my opinion. I have agreed that the comment that followed was probably [islightly[/i over the top but it wasn't intended to be taken quite so literally.

I actually feel bad that I might have ruined GJB's evening. Not so with Zod since he will more than likely have been sedated by 8pm.

Well that is very generous of you, Wellsy. I am happy [ithat[/i comment received your blessing.

P.S. I really don't want to fall out with a fellow Hull FC fan so please PM if you want to discuss further.'"

Given the talent and experience in our squad I don't think we over achieved (other than we did very well with alot of key players missing for chunks of the season). The proof will be in the pudding this year with basically the same squad.

Serious question.

Had Rovers lost the last derby at Craven Park on the final day of the season I believe they would have dropped to a 10th place finish (3rd bottom). I assume this would not then be classed as a successful season?

Did one result make that much difference in the end?

yep in oh so many ways! Lofty league position (relatively speaking) and a derby win, apart from being for a cup it was sweet!
