None of them have been retained due to history.
The license period hasn't come up since Bradford went into admin, so they haven't exactly been in a position to be replaced.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

A massive loan on the back of the ' Iconic ' status of Odsal comes under history IMO, take that away and the Bulls were toast irrelivant of licence periods
All IMO, no further comment

Didn't Crusaders get the same deal? They didn't have a history.
I'd say Bradford were kept due to their commercial necessity to SL, not because they had a good history. The "iconic stadium" loan was just a way to help them, like they have other clubs in the past.

Over a ten year period starting in 2015, Toulouse obviously.
Toulouse is a city, not a small town, and that city's population -- more than 20 times the size of Castleford -- is rugby mad. But until now the youth of that city have only had a professional rugby club of the rugby union variety. They have never had a local professional rugby league team to watch and to aspire to play for. Once Toulouse is admitted to SuperLeague, and the club's youth development officers start fanning out into the city, the youth interest in rugby league --- as "[il'autre rugby[/i" --- will start to grow quickly.

Do you really think the union boys will sit back and welcome competition in their City...especially the biggest team in their code multiple European champions etc?....they'll put up any barrier they can to make sure the league club isn't a threat (you obviously don't know much about history towards our sport in France)
Not to mention the salary cap (or lack of) in their league, they'd offer huge ammounts of money to tempt promising young local players over to the dark side (like they've done before) and what would you be left with?...a team full of ageing overseas players!

Impossible question to answer without Toulouse being in the league.
I can only go by comparing Cas to Catalans, and IMO Catalans have by far the better French players than Cas do local English players.
Also, if Cas weren't in SL, there would still be 6 other local SL clubs around to sign up the local talent into their academies. Cas aren't exactly essential to the production of players in that area when there are that many clubs on the doorstep. They'd still come up through somewhere if they were good enough (and looking through the list if Cas products in their squad, some are clearly not SL quality).
Catalans may sign up the occasional player from Toulouse, but it's a huge distance away (equivalent of Hull to Liverpool). It's a huge barrier to development. They could produce many if their own players in that area for sure, and that's without wishing for union converts (which I don't think anyone should count on happening).

If the union side want to buy the league players, then that's more money for our code that wasn't there originally. They can't buy them all. RU doesn't buy up all of London's best players and they're on the doorstep of the RFU HQ!
I don't think the threat of RU should stop us trying to move forward. It would be defeatist. RU exists pretty much everywhere. We can only compete if we're actually present and building.
Catalans have an RU presence in the city in USA Perpignan, but they've thrived.

Without a S.L club on their doorstep the kids would soon lose interest in the sport in the long term. There hasn't been a Cumbrian team in the top flight for a while...so compare the number of Cumbrians playing in S.L now to what it was 20 years ago....go on name them!
Talk about a "never mind you Jack" attitude...mind you have signed plenty from my district over the past 30 years (and continue to do so) not bad from the supposed hot bed of Humberside is it?.

5 clubs in the NW. 5 clubs in West Yorkshire. 2 in East Yorkshire. It's safe to say that there is a fair concentration of clubs in small pockets. Hull is isolated from the rest, but we're still sharing.
Clubs in West Yorkshire have everyone within an hours drive. That's not a good spread. Everyone's on each other's toes effectively.
I like to justify my opinions, nothing wrong with that. I also like it when others can justify there's when asked about them. If it's a decent opinion, it shouldn't be difficult to justify (even if it doesn't agree with mine).

FYI the Toulouse rugby union club supports the creation of a SL club in Toulouse. The two codes overlap only a little in their calender, with RU a winter sport and Super League a summer sport. The head of the French Federation of RL, who is the former boss of Toulouse, Carlos Zalduendo, is a former high ranking police official who knows all the rugby union officials personally. Toulouse rugby union officials have even appeared at an event promoting the Toulouse SL application.
The good relations between codes in Toulouse is totally different to the situation in Perpignan, where in any case RU has tried to, but has not successfully hampered, the growth of RL.

If you read the rest of my post, I argued why I disagree that Cas would produce more quality players over time by comparing Toulouse with Catalans.
If you can prove that Cas would produce more, be my guest. Otherwise, your question achieves nothing. It's a fallacious argument.
