Placing all three North American clubs in the Championship makes great sense as you then get a mini league of these clubs playing each other, and Toronto can start to play Americans and Canadians in their team. This would be a great stimulus for finding a paying American TV deal. It would be a great stimulus for American players to look at a career in Rugby League. In short a good plan....
Why do you fall over yourself to disagree with me and goad me all the time? I thought you were a genuine poster, a Wakey lad? I have my doubts about you.'"
Just how ?
Just because you relegate a club wont mean that they suddenly fill their side with "locals", why on earth would they.
Surely, their ambition, along with any other wealthy club in the Championship, is to gain promotion and ply their trade in the top flight, just as it will be for any other N. American club that joins league 1 or the Championship.
Also, you seem to forget that if you put Toronto in the Championship, they wont have any "local" competition and any newcomers would start in League 1 ??
There may be some mileage in them having local competition and this might help with generating interest and possibly allow them to stir interest in local broadcasting companies but, 3 clubs will never generate a stand alone deal that draws in millions of dollars, it's not going to happen.
Surely, the best chance of persuading N. Americans to watch RL is to have some presence in the top flight and watch a "local" club become successful and then for Sky to make a deal with local broadcasters ?
As for goading you, not at all.
However, if you post something so utterly outrageous on a public forum then, surely, you expect a response.
Your endless drive to see overseas clubs expelled from top flight RL to suit your own preference, whilst extremely annoying, should not go unchallenged.
As for being from Wakefield, it matters not.
I love RL, support my club, support the international game which, without profile, will totally disappear and I would like RL to be spread far and wide, not just restricted to the North of England.
Finally, back on topic.
It makes absolute sense for New York to delay their plans, it's an absolute no brainer.
Assuming that they can put their plans on hold - for whatever reason - a delay is absolutely the right thing to do.
As for a N. American "mini league" of just 3 clubs ?? Who, just who would want to watch that and what "level" of RL would play (SL/Championship/ League 1? Pop n crisp) and could that really interest the TV companies.
Even over here, where the game has been played for well over 100 years, the only interest is in SL and the occasional top 4 Championship game.
Your expectations are even more unlikely than "the dreamers" who believe thet N. America will be the new dawn and saving of the sport. Which, for the record, I dont.
