| Quote: wakey_saint ". Don't get me wrong, legal-wise they would have a very good case for big compensation from Souths for breaking that contract if he did decide to go back on his deal, and would undoubtedly win the case. But beyond that, I don't think they could stop him in the same way they technically could in the Segeyaro contract. Possibly the only way would be if the NRL refused to sanction it which I very much doubt would happen.'"
I doubt they’d get anything from Souths. The BoC (if there is one) would be against Furner as an individual (he’s the one who would be in BoC), unless there was some kind of evidence Souths enticed and induced him into the BoC.
Added to that, the complexity of bringing a BoC case against someone who isn’t even in the UK would be expensive and time-consuming. Ultimately, to get anything financial, Leeds would need to prove a financial loss resulting in the BoC. In this case, I’m not sure there is any way of claiming that the BoC would lead to financial loss, so again there’s a hurdle to jump.
As in the vast majority of cases, in reality there sent much an employer can do when an employee breaches contract. It very rarely leads to a financial loss, particularly to the extent its worth the legal fees to claim it back.

As mentioned on the another thread it was Sinfield who came up with the appointment. Seems like they’ll be a reoccurring theme at Headingley with Sinfield praised for good things and Hetherington taking the blame for the bad stuff.
When the signing of Hurrell was announced Sinfield was getting praised for bringing a quality signing in, if for arguments sake Hurrell turns around and says he doesn’t want to come now if Furner doesn’t come then I’ll guarantee it’ll be GH being criticised and nothing on Sinfield.

| The fact that Furner has held back on making any comment on the rumour and GH was pushed into making denials about contract clause get outs does lend some credibility to him possibly having been in the mix for the Souths vacancy and just wasn't the final pick. If another tempting Oz opportunity arises will he be tempted? I believe his lack of action when the rumour started and no denial from him does question his commitment.

Or not everybody (especially sports coaches/managers) spend their time on social media. He’s about to uproot to England and he’s trying to recruit more players, got better things to do than see how the internet is reacting to a rumour he knew wasn’t true. By the time the rumour was in full swing and getting reactions and Leeds fans worried it was night time in Australia so a lot of the time when people were waiting for a comment from him he’ll have been asleep.

If Furner head has been turned and wants a gig in the NRL before Superleague then Hethrington could be fighting to have a coach that isn't 100% sure of coming to Leeds. Are Leeds an attractive proposition these days for coach and player, now they have lost so many experienced players.

Wayne Bennett confirmed as me Souths coach. Unlikely Bennett will have agreed a deal in such a short space of time and has probably been speaking to Souths for a while and probably even face to face, which considering he’s over here in England atm then that would’ve been a few weeks ago at least. So doesn’t look like their was anything at all in the Furner rumour except someone’s filling colum inches because he didn’t have the correct story and also that Furner wasn’t sware of the bed wetting going on amongst Leeds fans.

I'm pretty sure Furner will have an agent that deals with his business affairs, supposedly Furner did respond to a local press enquiry and it wasn't a denial. The wording of your comment has the hallmarks of a damage limitation exercise.

So what exactly did Furner stay to the local press then?

| Oh well these detailed accounts of what he “supposedly” said are damning evidence.

| It would have to be a serious panic appointment for Leeds to bring in Agar as head coach. Must be as an assistant, surely?

| That makes more sense. It's the Furner rumour that's added a pinch of intrigue, and the "Agar to manage Leeds" thread heading.
