We can only hope that in the event of the MPG being played in Toronto that the RFL change their approach and insist on sufficient cameras plus VR for that game to reduce the chances of a similar incident.

Agree with the above poster that at full speed, it's completely understandable why that would have been given. Tries have probably been given in similar circumstances at non-televised games throughout the course of this season, but those tries weren't available as a screenshot to provide click-bait for some ty "banter" page.

So yeah, it's a simple refereeing mistake - an understandable one, but a mistake. Should the tech be there to reduce those mistakes? Of course, but for whatever reason it wasn't there.

Well, two at any rate..

The reason it would have been difficult to spot at full speed is that after Caton-Brown drops it his hand makes downward contact with the ball again just as/after it hits the ground, the officials would have seen a downward blur and then a hand in contact with the ball as it hit the ground. Very easy mistake to make without the benefit of replay.
