The first half by Wigan wasn’t great.

Some shockingly one-eyed refereeing going on. The contrast between giving a kick-on against Catalans when O’Loughlin clearly stripped the ball, followed by then awarding a penalty to Wigan when Gigot striped it, summed it up.

Catalans give many stupid penalties away, but somehow this ref didn’t see similar offences when committed by Wigan.

The issue for me isn’t the penalties awarded against Catalans, it’s the fact that week after week, the sides they play seem to benefit from conceding fewer penalties than normal. It’s too consistent to be purely coincidental.

It was bad but this is another level of awful

Quite right. The St Helens part of Billinge is very happy. Given that I didn't watch your lot I haven't had anything to dampen my spirits.

That game just shows had bad Catalans are. Wigan looked as good as clockface under 12s. Saints and Warrington would have put a cricket score on them

I have some sympathy with the view that Catalans seem to get the shi77y end of the stick in terms of referee decisions, but by jingo, they must be, collectively, the dumbest team in SL; I don't know how that happens to a group of disparate individuals - some of who you must assume have some rugby smarts - but there must be something about the culture and ethos of the club that makes them play that way.

Either way - that 2nd half was just about the most dramatic turnaround in attitude and on-field performance as you're ever likely to see; as a result, McNamara will suffer the wrath of their emotional chairman and lose yet another job, and the team will be consigned to the 8's - and Jean, like an Egyptian canoeist, will be in denial.

McNamara might blame the ref.
