| Quote PrinterThe="PrinterThe"Are you at all aware of the off field and financial problems that Bradford had?
Shows that when he had a better squad he could make the playoffs. The reason why Bradford and now Catalans went backwards have a lot more to do with the way the clubs were run by management.'"
Catalans had absolutely no gameplan, no set moves, no ideas yeaterday. They looked like they either all ignored or forgot what the coach had coached them to do or they aren’t being coached. Absolutely disgraceful from them against us. You could throw a blanket over their attacking structure. It was the easiest defensive game I think I’ve ever seen Wire have, on a decent day weather-wise you’re taking a 60-70 points to 0 win there but the rain was terrible. Catalans were worse though.
Play like that every week and there will be many ‘0’s for Catalans and a firm 12th place at the split and 8th place in the Middle 8s. They were THAT bad!

| Steve McNamara did a great job as England coach.
Bradford were already on the demise when he arrived due to serious financial difficulties.
Catalans were also struggling when he arrived late last season, and have continued to do so. I think their problems may be a little more serious than a change of coach can instantly rectify. Steve has his work cut out.

Not sure how you came to this conclusion. The only thing he really did as England coach was beat a completely disinterested New Zealand team in 1 series. Lost every game that mattered, lost to Italy and the fiasco at the start of 2013 WC was partly down to him. And the style of rugby was boring to watch.
He always strikes me an somebody who would be an excellent number 2, but not good enough to be a number 1.

| I don’t think he can be judged on Bradford, Noble must have known what was coming and jumped ship when he had the opportunity. SM took over at the start of the financial issues which was the reason for their downfall.
With England he did no better or worse than anyone else I remember.
Catalan were in a mess before he started and are still in a mess now. My first target of who to blame would be the chairman as I have serious doubts over how well that club is run.

Can't be judged?
He was there for the best part of 4 seasons. If you cant judge a coach on results over that length of time, then what can/should you judge them on?

Agreed. So he should be able to pull out 2 victories over a series of 3 with the cream of the nations talent at his disposal.

| Going to Catalans was a horrendous career choice for McNamara. Having a questionable coaching track record would mean you should pick your next appointment carefully. Picking Catalans, a club in turmoil in a country where you're not familiar (and I assume don't know the language) was asking for trouble from day one. He was on a hiding to nothing. That's literally what's happening. He's achieving nothing and getting a hiding for it.
I'd say you can't judge him on it, but he chose to take on the role. He knew exactly what he was getting himself in for. I could understand if he was a promoted number two, like at Bradford, but to pick this appointment was ridiculous.
