As I put , Mr Stayt made a simple observation , I doubt he has an agenda
Yes I watched part of a match of Rugby Union last week , it was poor considering it was essentially a friendly match
You are entitled to your opinion'"
There are 2 world cups. The proper one which is called "the rugby world cup" that is played by nations that have domestic competitions. The other is called the rugby league World Cup that is basically a tri nations between a game that is played in the north of England and the East Coast of Australia

| Great game today. More skill on show than the English rugby league team have shown for 10 years. I can't think of one English rugby league player who would get on that England team yet 11-15 would walk into England's rugby league team

Just wondereing, are you drunk? Only asking because you called me out on something to which I replied and you have replied with something that is irrelevant and makes no sense? Maybe chat again tomorrow when you are sober??

Nope, it's often a misconception that NFL games are long, but the last about 3 hours including stoppages halt time break etr. Regular football with injury time half time etr as about 2 hours.RL just under 2 hours generally.

| Queen James, trying to put our game down by saying it is only played in two places means absolutely nothing about the quality of unionball over rugby league. All you are saying there is that unionball is a bigger game that is played in more places but that doesn't make the quality of the sport better. It just makes the people that run the sport better at marketing it.
There are loads of small sports that are really entertaining and really skilled but they aren't rubbish just cos no one has heard of them or they don't get much exposure. I am a competition scrambler but you cant name any famous scramblers or famous routes can you so is my sport rubbish?? No.

The sport is called Rugby Union , couldn't care less what their World Cup is called
And as I pointed out , there is no sport called Super League
It was you who then drifted the thread
But you're free to post whatever bollox you want , as everybody who reads it is free to make up their minds about you and your opinions

| Well it looks like that half a dozen points for a win will spark a plethora of tries in the kick code for the six nations. Can't see it really, the rules are too set up for spoil and delay. Some teams have tried to play open rugby (also a magazine in the eighties dedicated to a certain sport) but appear to falter on the rule book. Somehow the bottom of the world teams manage this but once they come up against the dearth fest of the northern hemisphere Union teams they sometimes struggle.
And if it comes to it at an international game of union, there are genuine fans but rather too many corporates (a group League has failed to embrace at club and international level) who regardless of what is in front of them are too busy with the freebie rather than the sport. But they'll spout how wonderful it was. Might even have enjoyed it myself a few times, the hospitality not the spectacle.

| The only genuinely enjoyable spectacle in the whole Union calendar is the Army vs Navy game, the rest at both international and club level are monotonous penalty festivals where the spectators are more interested in supping ale away from the game than actually watching the "action" on the pitch

| It's not a difficult problem for the RFU to sort out, if they want to.

| Quote: GUBRATS "Discussing an article written by Sir Clive Woodward about how he is unhappy that England RU ' fans ' spend too much time going to the bar during matches at Twickenham , BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt suggested the coaches should concentrate on making the game more ' compelling ' to keep them interested
What was the attendance at Twickenham on Saturday? 80000 plus?
What was the attendance when England played Australia at rugby league in London recently? 35000?
Maybe Charlie Stayt would respond to those statistics by asking whether rugby league needs to be made more compelling, so that it can attract the same crowds as rugby union.

Crowd size is not a reflection of quality of the sport, it is a reflection on how crap league's marketing department is as discussed often on here. Sport itself still better.

Although the rfl are without doubt inept and massive drain on the game, I'm not sure I agree they are the main issue. How good was the marketing of the sport in the late 80s/90s (genuine question, I was too young) as I recall games in London with huge crowds.
I do think the standards have fallen recently, it's just not as entertaining, especially international. That is affecting attendances particularly outside of heartlands

Not suggesting anything with regards comparing the sports and their relative popularities
I doubt Charlie Stayt would even be aware of RL
It was just pointing out an ' Elephant in the room ' moment
