Child has the unerring ability to turn a good game average and an average one cr4p.

You really really don't want him reffing a game when the weather is poor. His reluctance to penalise offsides and holding down/interference can make for a very rubbish game in poor weather.

The thing with child is in the first 10 minutes of each half he penalises everything and anything. I presume to 'stamp his authority' Then as the game continues he lets things go that he's previously penalised.
I would imagine the powers that be were watching very carefully as since "faggate" child has barely set foot at headingley!

He is easily the poorest ref in SL IMO.

He is, and i agree with Jools, he seems to go through spells where he never stops whistling and then has spells where it seems anything goes.
Still doesn't explain McDermott's strange comments though.

Changing the subject slightly, why don't flops ever seem to get penalised these days?

Like: Moving off the mark, trapping in, diving, lying on, standing square...never gets officiated properly, it's anything goes at times with some refs.

Yet fairly innocent tackles get three game bans and red cards? I love this sport but it isn't half bizarre at times!

Sorry my post was directed to the Leeds fan at the bottom of pg1 who said his heart sinks whenever Leeds get Child.

I'm no fan of Childs and as a Wakey fan, I'm more than happy to see Cas or Leeds get beaten.
As a neutral, he (McDermott) is doing what most "fans" do and only watching where his own team get done and not taking account of where the opposition are being "wronged".

Leeds may have had a couple of tough calls but, you are quite right to point out the Leeds try from a clear knock on.
Cas deserved their win (gulp) and McDermott need to work on his own team (after Mondays game though

Mcdermott is normally pretty level headed with his comments in defeat. His comments were somewhat cryptic. I couldn't think of many instances in the game where cas were given a penalty that wasn't a penalty. There was a knock on in the 2nd half that was given as interference, that's it. Factor in the hardaker knock on and I didn't feel leeds really got the bad end of anything. But the way McDermott worded it was like he wanted to vent his disapproval of something, but wanted to hide what it actually was.
