| Many of the English teams are from "Rugby" before the split, so from that point of view the answer is simple, ensure that the Media etc use the correct usage, if they are covering a Union game then call it Rugby Union, if the are covering League then call it Rugby League.
Most folks outside of 'Rugby' won't understand the difference anyway, I work in Liverpool and few understand even that the games have different amount of players on the pitch.

I'd agree with that if I thought it was possible. But as Rugby Union seem keen on dropping the word "Union" from many parts of its game then I don't think we'd make any inroads in that respect.
I think that whilst Union is/has become known as Rugby in large parts pf this country and most of the rest world, people are often confused by us coming along calling ourselves the Rugby League. Many people assume we are part of "Rugby"(Union).
I don't know what the answer is, and if there's no good solution I wouldn't change the name, just if there were a good alternative I think it would help us identify ourselves.

| Rugby is where our game came from & I think we should always keep rugby in our name. What we should have done was stop the other code droping union from its world cup by copywriting the name. A few years ago I answered a question on local radio (Who is the England rugby captain) they tried to say I was wrong when I answered Andy Farrel, It was only to win a coffee mug but I demanded they cough up.

Why? I think we should call it Speedball personally. Speedball XIII, with skull logos for all clubs. Play it indoors, have a Go Pro on every player and bring back the shoulder charge.
The word 'rugby' to me conjures up images of Range Rovers, posh lads and hooped jerseys with high-waisted shorts. I never use the word.

| I think that we should rename it The Greatest Game.
That way every time a radio or TV commentator or reporter talks about it, or a newspaper or magazine journalist writes about it, they have to use the term The Greatest Game.
Common folks, in fact people in general, will surely be intrigued by this game name, and want to take a look.

| The word rugby, used on its own, sets the teeth on edge. Rugby league, however, ties into all things in life that are good.

| Rugby League has to stay, but you talk American football it's NFL, in Australia we talk of NRL so maybe we should push RFL as the "brand" and build on that but definitely keep rugby in the title.

But that kind of thing doesn't work here. No one calls it the EPL, AP or ESL (other than as shorthand internet use). They call it the Premier League, Rugby or Aviva Premiership and Super League.

Aye, NFL NBA NHL MLS MLB NRL AFL SPL EPL BBL...all brand names.
We are actually already known as ESL on Aussie message baords and in some Aussie media. And if we invite Toulouse over there's even more scope for that.
But [iwe[/i don't actually call our sports any of those names (edit, just seen someone else say that above too!)
