I've never been against the VR but since the introduction of the on field decision it's become a farce. Pertaining to an earlier "did he/didn't he ground it" decision: If the ref sees the ball grounded he calls a try. If he send it upstairs he can't have seen it grounded or he'd have called a try. Yet he calls a try as he's sending it upstairs which the VR can only disprove with concrete evidence. The view is obscured by a player's foot ruling out concrete proof, and we already know the ref hasn't seen it grounded or he wouldn't have referred it. So neither ref nor video ref has seen it grounded but the VR is bound by the rules to award a try.

As for the obstruction call, that was a complete joke. He changed direction to collide with the defender. It wasn't a bad read, there was no physical way he could have avoided that collision and made the tackle.

Cas have been well and truly screwed. Lost by 4 points as well.

It's a regular occurrence of Cas being on the end of "dodgy" video refereeing decisions.

That's the 3rd game this year where there's been clearly wrong decisions that have outright had a massive impact on the game (Catalan early in the season, Huddersfield at Wheldon Road and tonight)

Incompetence. The system is crap but that decision wasn't the system it was disgraceful.

That has to go down as one of the worst decisions ever. There have been many VR decisions I haven't agreed with but with most I can understand why they came to the decision.

Greenwood changed his line and ran straight into the defender which created the gap. Should have been an easy no try decision.

It was a good game to watch however both coaches won't be happy with their defence. Could bee a costly win for St Helens with Walmsley and Wilkin going off injured.

Awful decision but as players they have to get on with it. They didn't and they lost. Went down fighting but didn't have enough.
Think I'd rather had seen Castleford in the semis.

What happened to last years guaranteed MOS after a few rounds Luke Walsh. He looked awful tonight. Boring and bad in defence. Burns hasn't looked good all season. Two players on paper should be ripping it up.

With the video ref, they should have to explain the decision they reach to the on field referee and give the on field ref the chance to overturn their initial decision. Decision should always go back to on field ref IMO.

Having said that, can't wait for the twitter account to explain this one. I get what everyone is saying, it appears an obvious obstruction, the run from Greenwood was dumb. But Roberts was very lazy, his fall to the floor was pathetic, he was trying to accept the penalty. Had he been even pretending to be interested in tackling Quinlan, he'd have got the penalty.

I would say Walsh waving his arms about every time a Saints player got tackled was equally pathetic.

Ho-hum, proud of the effort by Cas though.

Any team which scores as many points at home as Cas - and loses - only has itself to blame.

Any guy going down as fast as Roberts did was never going to get to Quinlan anyway.

When everyone can see (by the letter of the law) that’s an obstruction, why on Gods earth would it not be disallowed?

Is it a deliberate attempt to sway the result, is it purely ineptitude on behalf of the V.R, or maybe the wholehearted majority of posters are just ignorant buffoons?

When St’s were running away with it, Thaler gave Cas a penalty when it was quite clear Solomona was put in touch, perhaps the producer had a word in his ear.
