| His now trade mark finish is very impressive and something he seems to have down to a tee, and he's fairly reliable in all areas, but those who've seen him throughout his career know that his other real asset is his raw pace. Unfortunately, mainly because we've been playing poor rugby in recent seasons, we've not seen an awful lot of it.

| Is Makinson's finishing technique actually that new? Yes, he does it regularly and does it well, but I'm sure I've seen Hall, Charnley and even Ali Lauitiiti perform the same trick - equally or even more spectacularly.
That said, he is a real talent and I fully expect him to travel to Australia / NZ this winter. Sky's job is to hype up their product and they're using Makinson to do that - we've had these same discussions about Sam Tomkins and Danny McGuire in the past.

Yes, if you look at the 'Big 5' when this season started (Leeds, Wigan, Saints, Wire, Hudds) only one overseas winger in Joel Monaghan at a Wire.
Over the last decade the big teams have usually had at least one wing spot occupied by an overseas player
- Vaikona, Vainikola, Bai, Donald, Dallas, Richards, Albert, Meli

| To me he's a bit like SL's answer to Jason Nightingale. Solid in most areas, with the added bonus of being a world class finisher. He's still behind Hall, and Briscoe IMO, and I'd have him behind Charnley, and Lineham if they can get fit and regain form.

This is the thing. I agree he is behind those three. But sometimes fans will go down the line of anything less than being in the top 2 is a failure. So anyone hyped up who are not the first choice is deemed as being rediculous.
Where as actually it's good to have a range of choices at the very least it makes the best players even better as they have to up their game to hold onto that position.

| I yearn for the day we have this kind of discussion about our half backs.

A few years ago you could have said that about any of our back positions though.

Sutcliffe, Powell, Williams, Charnock, Hewitt all highly rated by their respective clubs (the usual suspects for youth development) - then there's a halfback at hull whose very highly rated on their board HTW(I think?) (but the last time they said that turned into Richard Horne, so read into that as you will) and if he ever gets any decent coaching I think mike Bishay at London has a lot of potential.
Of course how much time and development these guys gets depends entirely on the success of the new league structure ... Nothing stops a kids development like panic buying and not playing.

| Harry Tyson Wilson at Hull will be England's half back in years to come. He's going to be brilliant!

| thinking about it Makinson finishing would be a massive asset against the aussies because its very rare does a winger break away for a long distance try.
