Quote Urmston Wire="Urmston Wire"Hull confuses me, I can never decide if I like it or not. Some of it is fantastic and more interesting than most cities- some of it is bloody awful. The people are mainly really nice- but it's also the only place I've seen someone start a fight in a Tesco Express at 8 in the morning.'"
I will never forget my second night in Hull after moving there in 2010. It was a Sunday evening and decided to go for a few drinks. Larkin Bar on Newland Ave was the first place we came across, so in we went. There happened to be a few tables cordened off for a christening and as we were at the bar got talking to a few blokes who could obviously tell we were new to the area. As we got towards the end of our first pint one of the blokes slipped away and came back with a pint for the six of us as a 'welcome to Hull' then went off on his way. Things like that really do stick with you.
Yes, it may be a bit rough around the edges, but to be honest having grown up in a dull, middle class cul de sac where the most exciting thing to happen was someone letting their front lawn get a bit long, I liked it. Another example from two days later I can remember walking to Sainsburys at about 3 in the morning and seeing a bloke on the other side of the road casually swinging a baseball bat. We got into the shop and ended up sat with the staff eating cakes and drinking pop which they had bought in for a member who was leaving. Completely different to anything I was used to and if I am honest I miss the place, it was great to be back the other week to watch England!
