| Sheffield's win in the cup was one of the biggest but in terms of beating Wigan at Wembley but Sheffield were an established top flight team so it was more the shock factor that they did it on the big stage.
Salford when they knocked Wigan off their 'Run' were in the Championship and Wigan were on there way to the league that season so a real shock factor

| Cas 24-34 Barrow in 2010, though salary cap breaches take the shine off that. 2011 with a different ref (v rare for me to say that) Leigh would have arguably beat Catalans.

| 1995,huddersfield 36-30 halifax.
'fax were riding high at the top of the old 1st division, fartwon were a 2nd division side.with 20 minutes to go fartown were 36-6 up and none of us could believe what we were seeing, although fax pulled a few tries back to make it look close,we battered them, not many people know or remember this game apart from the 9,000 that were there.
as shocks go though, salford beating wigan in 1996 had that " bloody hell" feel about it.

Why was it a 'shock', they were obviously good enough to get to the final, we were too feckin cocky/overconfident plus a few iffy refereeing decisions but I wouldn't call it a shock to be fair.

| Since I'm fairly new to RL. Huddersfield beating Leeds in the 2006 semi was a big cup shock for me. Huddersfield hasn't beaten Leeds in a thousand years and even many Leeds fans had seen it as a walkover and had bought final tickets before the game.

Good call.
Slightly disheartening for me that a decent chunk of upsets have Wigan on the receiving end... I hope that's just down to the fact that I (obviously) pay more attention to our games! plus I suppose it's nicer to be the favourite more often than not.

| Quote: Egg Chasing "The Hull KR and Fev wins were also against sides struggling in the league which is why I'd class it as a shock but not a massive onein the same category as Salford or Sheffield beating Wigan.
Wasn't aware of the Siddal result I'll be honest. That would definitely have to go down as one.
The Challenge Cup is great I agree, but there's no denying that people don't view it as they used too and crowd sizes show that.'"
If i'm not mistaken, Warrington were 6th in the league and were in good form (unbeaten in 6, or 1 defeat in 7) when we played them, albeit we were 20 odd games unbeaten ourselves but to post 40 points against a Super League side was remarkable (aware that you're post about not calling it a shock suggests you did regard the class of 06' a very good one )
