It wasn't a knock on and I really can't understand those confused by it. It clearly went backwards off his hand and then bounced forwards off the ground - that is not a knock on. Just as a pass that starts off backwards but drifts or bounces forwards is not a forward pass.

From the rules: "If the ball is passed correctly but bounces forward or is blown forward by the wind, there is no infringement and play should continue."

Not true. there is no "momentum rule" for a knock on.

Indeed. And the ball clearly landed on the ground further away from the Leeds line than where Briers made contact with it. Therefore the ball did not move towards the opponent try line, thus is not a knock on.

never knew that a forward pass can be given as a penalty if the referee believes the pass thrower knows the receiver is infront of him

Yep. Deliberate forward pass = penalty. I've never seen it given.
