| Quote: JonB95 "On what basis can Cas, Wakey + Salford be dumped in the division BELOW London? can't be based on on-field performance
Have you made up Cardiff/Swansea by magic or are you referring to South Wales Scorpions?'"
On the basis that we must start off with a top tier London club to showcase our sport in the capital and support the excellent grass roots that have been established over many years, plus London have never finished bottom in SL.
For RL to take a hold in S.Wales at SL level it must be at either of those two locations, call the club what you will.

| I'd like to advocate a conference system but it just feels somehow "unbritish" so I'd only go for that if we had enough French clubs to form their own conference.
I'd like the RFL to come out with a full on 5-10 year strategy. I'm sure they do have some sort of plan but if we really want to see things like France get up to England's level then they will just have to suck it up and tell everyone that the best prepared French club will get a place in Super league.
I'd like to see a fully pro championship and further geographical expansion at the lower levels, dependent on outcomes from the 4 new clubs coming in.
We can't be so afraid of failure either. So what if an idea fails? How else are the RFL going to learn what works and what doesn't. The Crusaders affair has likely taught a lot of people in the game a lesson. Catalans shows us what works, Crusaders shows us what doesn't.

| If it was an "Ideal" SL where everything is great/clubs are self-sustaining etc then I'd have a 16 team league of:
Leeds
Wigan
Huddersfield
Bradford
Sheffield
Hull FC
Hull KR
Saints
Warrington
Salford/Manchester
London Broncos
London Skolars
Nottingham
Gloucester
Newcastle
Wrexham
Similar to NRL where top 8 play each other twice and bottom 8 once (and vice versa for bottom with a top 8 playoff. Obviously Challenge Cup.
3 overseas players allowed per club.
A Heritage round, plus a "youth" round where at least 8 players out of the 17 must be non-overseas and under the age of 24.
a 3-game series Origin Series consisting of Yorkshire, Lancashire & Rest of UK/Barbarians type side. The previous years winner is automatically in the next years series. The other participant decided by a preliminary game.
A mid-season Tri-Nations between England, France & Wales. 1 game each followed by Final.
Every 2 years there should be an end of year 3-Test Series rotating between GB, Australia & NZ. With a World Cup every 4 years.
Oh and as its an "ideal", there would be P&R re-introduced as the Championship would be strong enough ideally.
If its working with what we've already got then a 14 team league is about right, as are the teams within it.
I'd like Magic Weekend to be at Etihad permanently and built on, and also have the Magic Weekend be a Heritage Round.
The Challenge Cup should start later so there is more momentum built in it going toward the final (ie not such big gaps) plus restricted to only 1 overseas player.
I'd also replace the Exiles game with a 3-game Yorkshire v Lancashire series.
And restrict those picked in England/GB/Elite squads to playing 24 regular SL rounds & 3 CC games (not including the final).
I'd be desperately trying to find a very rich owner to take over London Broncos.

| My ideal SL would be a league of min 12 max 20 clubs all with an income over 5million pounds, all with a home avg of 10,000+ fans, all playing in a decent stadium and all 75% full of players from their country.
I wouldn't really care what teams they are as long as they were doing the above.

I reckon RLHQ would not only agree with you, but have wet dreams over this scenario.

| 12 team superleague playing home and away only, get rid of the extra contrived fixture of the magic weekend.
Magic weekend would be a 2 day seeded super 9 competion guaranteeing fast open rugby to attract new supporters to the game.
Replace franchising with promotion and relegation every 2 years. Promoted team to receive reducing subsidy from RFL to finance structure of the club over period.
Make the game more intense by making the clubs fight all through the season for a top 3 play off, top team needs rewarding by going straight into final.
Massive spend by RFL on TV advertising and Media presence to give the game some stature through superleague promotion. Similar massive change in the marketing arm of RFL to attract real global sponsors.

Where's the extra money coming from to allow the Sky money to be split 20 ways instead of 14, allow for an increase in the salary cap of £100,000, give the lower division a big payout and reduce clubs number of home games to 9 per season?
Plus will the clubs in SL1 be happy that they are subsidising SL 2? As eventually Sky would only show SL1 games.

How would P&R every 2 years work? Who goes down? The team who finished bottom in year 1 or year 2? The same for promotion?
Would that make it more intense? Or would the mid-table teams simply have nothing to play for?
Great, with what money? Who's going to lose out for this huge marketing spend? Is it the pro clubs or the grassroots?

Year 2 for P + R, year 1 to allow the new team to adjust to superleague.
Mid table would have nothing to play for , do you want a mid table team who maybe has lost 10 games be superleague champions against a team who maybe could have only lost 2 games. In year 2 , I,m sure teams 4,5,6 would be competing for that 3rd place. Similarly 9,10,11 place would be fighting to
avoid relegation. So yes a couple of teams in the comfort zone would have nothing to play for.
These great RFL profits should be raising the profile of the game, marketing is the most important attribute in business, but the RFL don,t realise this, I,m not sure if we have a marketing director anymore in a similar way we don,t look as though we will have a new chairman in place this year.
