Quote Londo06="Londo06"Why not tennis, golf and cricket. One of the few ways we are spreading the game is people accidentally watching or flicking through the channels and finding our game interesting. A shift away from the traditional SS channels (come on everyone knows them off by heart) would only hurt our game.'"
This.
The main reason a shift to our own channel would be bad is because people would be unable to watch RL by accident or be unable to casually watch RL. They'd have to be full on RL fans to want to order the channel.
The only way around this would be to have the usual games on Sky and BBC and have the extra games on RLTV (or whatever you'd call it).
You'd have a potential line up of:
Sky Sports - 2x live SL games per week (Fri 8pm & Sat 6pm), live SoO, live NRL final, half of England internationals.
BBC - 2x CC games per round (from round 4), half of England internationals.
RLTV - 5x live SL games per week (Sat 1pm & 4pm, Sun 12pm, 3pm, 6pm).
1x live Championship game (Thurs 8pm), 8x live NRL games, other live internationals, Student RL, CC rounds pre/4th round (+maybe 2x games up to semis).
A lot of that I'd what Premier Sports do already, and if they can find the money for production costs for one Championship game, then surely that equipment can be used to cover other games?
The rest of your weekly schedule would be repeated highlights of weekly rounds for each comp, a magazine show, a gameshow, interviews, classic games (Finals, internationals, SL). If we're that desperate to fill it all, there's always RL shop in the morning and RL babes in the really early morning!
The main issue would be whether it would make or lose money. The channel would take money off of current TV contracts with Sky and BBC (for not being exclusive rights), and whilst the channel would be subscription based (similar to Premier Sports), would it make up the shortfall (and exceed it)? And would we get anything more than peanuts for adverts?
As much as I would love a dedicated RL channel, I doubt we'd make any money off of it.
