The problem with SOO these days is that it is just like an NRL game – yes, it’s a good standard of rugby and to NSW and QLD natives it will really matter but for somebody brought up on the legend of origin in the 80’s it has lost its edge. Put these players in a Brisbane or St George shirt and it would look just the same
It used to be played and (vitally) refereed differently to the week to week games – more was let go and it was edgy and looked like it was going to explode at any time. Now, the ref’s penalise everything and it loses something because of that. I don’t just mean fights but the brutality and spectacle isn’t there anymore for me (which is no bad thing because I think this mantel is being picked up again by International League)
Still, I will watch any game of Rugby League
