| There is quite a lot of initial work involved in setting up a Supporters' Trust. It's quite formal and properly regulated - it's an Industrial and Provident Society - like a co-op - and regulated by the FSA. You have to do things professionally and properly, otherwise the FSA will not register it. Fortunately, Supporters' Direct can hand-hold aspiring Trusts through the process, and provide some financial support too for the formation etc. Invaluable. They have a model set of rules (the equivalent of a limited company's memorandum and articles of association) which, if you follow closely in drawing up your own Trust's rules, should pass muster with the FSA.
There are quite a few Supporters' Trusts now established for RL clubs. Warrington's is the one to look at for SL clubs - I think Bulls are prob the second such trust for SL - but there are quite a few for non-SL clubs, where the need is often quite urgent. I'm sure Laura would be happy for genuinely-interested parties to contact her. And she can't help being a Huddersfield fan...

Yes i have recieved some information from her via email and it does look good. All supporters say something needs doing but now its time for them to step up to the plate. The way things look like they are going, it may be something we maybe not need to do but have to do. Im a leeds rhinos fan so dont think i will curry favour with you either then. I only get to local games in the northwest so i have followed the panthers(blackpool gladiators, lancashire lynx, chorley etc) for about 10 years.
thanks for the information

In this context, what matters is that you are a RL fan, I'd say?

| [iThere are a number of ways a trust could work but all of them centre around the supporters gaining influence within the ranks of their professional clubs. After all, you pay money every year supporting your club but if the club is being badly run (which a number are) then that money is not being used in the best possible way to develop the club for the future.
[/i
So let me get this right.
Say Barry McKenzie owns a footy club. I would want to run it as a business to make money. Thats the whole idea of having a business right?
So I would hire people who know what they are doing.
A coach who can coach.
A marketing manager who knows how to market the club.
Players who know how to play.
A catering team that know how to cater.
Physios that quite literally know their a r se from their elbow.
Yet suddenly some bright spark forms a 'Supporters trust' and along with other members suddenly start telling ME (the bloke who actually runs this club) how to run MY club??
Yeah right.
So what can Joe Blow on the terraces tell me about running a footy club?

| Barry - kindly bog off with your unhelpful vitriol.
The Bulls trust, like the Wire trust and no doubt some others too, is aimed primarily at raising funds to help with junior development. That is a different situation to some clubs in the lower divisions, where there is a crisis of ownership - usually a crisis of funding too - and the only way forward is through the supporters effectively owning or part-owning the club. There will be situations in between.
You talk a load of utter garbage so much of the time, but this time you excel yourself. I suggest you take the trouble to acquaint yourself with what this subject is actually about, and maybe take the trouble to consult with members of relevant trusts, before spouting yet more rubbish.
