By comparison, the Ladbrokes deal was worth a reported £1m a season. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/ ... llenge-cup
Essentially, we've re-negotiated with the existing sponsor (Ladbrokes owns Coral) on a seemingly much cheaper deal.

What if that 7 figure number is £2,500,000?

| Quote bren2k="bren2k"That already exists - or it did a few years ago; you should know that WC - you came to the GF with the amateur club that I was involved with!
It was pretty straightforward iirc - the RFL Development Officer came to the club and brokered an allocation of tickets for a discounted rate - which wasn't payable until after the event; they also sorted out coaches, which again, we didn't have to pay for until after we'd sold all the tickets. We filled, I think, 3 coaches, and made a decent wedge to support the club.
Do they not operate that scheme any more?'"
I remember it well and it was a decent trip but, you certainly dont see much in the way of promotion / advertising of the Challenge Cup Final or GF from the SL clubs that arent playing.
Every club could /should be pushing the event and THe RFL could certainly find a way to incentivise this.

As a gambling man, I'd take the bet that it isn't.

| Quote Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza="Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza"You’ve got a real bee in your bonnet about this and came onto the Bradford board to argue about it.
Please forgive the little championship clubs for wanting to drum up a bit more interest/cash from pre-season games. In the face of losing revenue thanks to clubs like yours.
What do you think’s going to happen when all those clubs go out of business? If it’s that you think we’ll all Start supporting club’s like Wakefield you’re in for a shock.'"
How would you feel were Leeds to enter a team next year? Given that we actually voted against cutting money to the lower leagues. Against lower league opposition this year we've fielded competitive teams against Donny & Coventry pre-season and are due to meet Hunslet and Fev. Wouldn't mind something along the lines of the YC, it'd be good to visit the odd different ground.

Didn't you lot already try this approach with the Middle 8s?
Wouldn't mind some of cup for the Lancashire sides as well, Wigan could probably field 2 teams to get the kids some more experience.

We did and while the experience of "qualifying" was a painful one, it was good to take on the likes of Fax, Fev and London away and welcome very enthusiastic support from the likes of Batley in proper game settings. IIRC, the attendance for the Batley game was over 15k.

If the deal was a penny bigger than the last, I believe the self promoting prix at the RFL would have mentioned it. As has been said, we have the same sponsor for a lower fee.......and I see that there's no mention of who blinked first in regards of the £500k demand......but well done the RFL for spinning this in a positive light

So have we got anything other than assumptions? Looks like the people spinning things the most are yourself and Brantley who have a history criticising the RFL and their marketing and have just read it how you’ve wanted to so you can have a pop at them again.
May be lower, may not, you both seem to be judging on your predetermined opinion on the RFL.

I repeat. If it were a cent more than the last deal, the RFL would have trumpeted that fact....the reality that we have is that they didn't, so it is a fair assumption, given their recent ability to mess pretty much anything and everything up, that the owners of the new sponsors, Coral, who happen to be owned by the previous sponsors, Ladbrooks have got a better deal than before which also includes the ladies Cup too.
I agree that I am not the biggest fan of the RFL, but this assumption is made based on the simple reality that nobody at the RFL has ever missed an opportunity for self promotion and not just on my belief that they couldn't organise a p-up in a brewery.
As for Catalans paying £500,000........who do you think blinked first? If I were to bet on it, I'd reckon that no money has changed hands, but if that were to become public knowledge, then the Mancpack and Toulouse would be exempt too....so again, this is mentioned but with no detail...great spin doctoring!
