you think but you don't know? is that because you can't be d to find out or you haven't been told? how is it going to be sorted? who is going to sort it? do you not care about these things? as i've said you are better off finding out about your own club rather than trolling mine.

| Quote: GIANT DAZ "thats the point i was making with the other guy yesterday - if you have no interest in Union (which i dont !) then you may as well tell all that to a moonrock, unless you read or watch things Union then people wont have heard of him even if he played a million times for Wales and scored 500 tries in one season.
I wouldn't know any of the English Union team if they passed me in the street so i have absolutely 0% of recognising players from other countries !'"
He was in the news, front of any Sports Site you would look at, because he came out of the closet. I don't give a flying monkey about Association Football, but I can still name half of the England team (why? I'm not even English!) because it's in the news and I don't live with a bag on my head.
Because I don't live with a bag on my head I can name the following union players:
Wales: Henson, Gareth Thomas, Steve Jones, Hook
England: Flood, Wilkinson, Johnson, Mike Catt (or "My Cat" as the mrs reffers to him), Cipriani
Scotland: Patterson
Italy: Bergamasco (*3 now)
Ireland: O'Driscoll, D'Arcy
France: Michalak, Harinordikay, Bastardeau
Admittedly some of them are known because of girlfirends or silly names, but unless you don't follow the news or sports you will know who these people are - the only possible scenario is that whenever you see the word "union" you change the channel, at which point should you really be commenting on this?
If it was a player coming from Association, or even Cricket, chances are you would recognise the name, claiming you don't recognise a well discussed sports character is just not believeable, hence why everyone is calling you on it.

Right, i'm commenting because i wanted to know how big a signing this would have on a RL team because i dont follow Union so i am not aware of the players in that particular sport..........i dont read newspapers and i dont watch TV apart from football and Rugby league.
i dont wear a bag on my head i just dont have any interest in Rugby Union at all, i am not calling the sport of Rugby Union in this debate but merely trying to find out who the guy is and what impact it would have on RL and trying to understand how big a signing it could be for the sport.
I'm sorry i cant name any Rugby Union players, neither can i name most premier league footballers even though i am a football fan, just because someone is big in a certain sport or has been in the news doesn't mean everyone has to have heard of them.
Like i said i dont read the papers i dont watch TV so how would i have heard of this fella ?

I don't follow popular culture or Football, generally I don't follow sports news as my only sports interest is Cycling and RL. However, because you can't escape talking to people (friends/pub/shops) you still pick up on trivia such as - Big names in the top 3 UK sports (Association, Cricket, Union), whatever's happening in the latest Reality show, the basics of some sitcoms.
Granted, as a teacher I get more of this because I work with over 300 students who all bring me up to date with this stuff, but even when I worked in an office with two mutes I still couldn't avoid it. Do you really not go to online Sports sites, really not follow the news at all (even uncle's copy of the Mail?), not watch the news? (If you don't, you should, there'll be an election soon - you need to be informed).
ps: There's no way to convey the fact that I am flabbergasted by your stance, but not angry or condemning other than to write it here.

ps
The press reported a survey yesterday where a third of students could not name Gordon Brown as leader of the Labour Party. The guy gets saturation media coverage.
My cousin watches 'Dancing on ice' I could tell you nothing about contestants / judges or how the thing is scored. (The coverage it gets far exceds welsh RU). I think there was someone from hollyoaks on it a while back. I know nothing about the storylines of that soap or the cast members. This flabbergasts my cousin. I could be flabbergasted that my cousin does not know how good Goren and Eames / Nichols and Wheeler are in one of my favourie programmes.
If you are not interested in someything you filter it out.

Sorry - don't agree.
Of your list, I would know recognise the names of Cipriani, Wilkinson, Martin Johnson and Mike Catt from England, Henson from Wales and O'Driscoll from Ireland. And I suspect that is already more than the average person (and a lot less than I could have named 15 or 20 years ago).
Media is way more fragmented and specialized than it used to be. I can follow politics and business stories from round the world without sitting through 30 minutes of dumbed-down BBC news. I look at all of the broadsheets on a weekday, but I wouldn't even glance at say the horse racing, golf or rugby union
I'm sure you're right that Gareth Thomas was front page news on all sport news websites, but how does that help when I would just have the RL section bookmarked and go straight there? Likewise, 20 years ago, people might have watched the RU internationals because there were only 4 tv options (and the other choices were probably a black and white film and the open university).

| now the one RU guy i'd love to see give RL a shot is sebastian chabal! he's 32 so could only give it a few seasons but that is something i'd really be interested to see

My club has been through administration, almost going under, debt, you name it. But through the passion and dedication of some amazing people (the Rovers Supporters Group) we pulled through it and are now doing fine. By sorting it I meant chipping away at it slowly (better merchandising, increased sponsorship, reduced wagebill etc), like our neighbours Hull (who were £2million in debt) have gradually done.
We will do this whilst staying true to our roots in East Hull, not moving around, sh****ng on fans (e.g. like those in Bridgend) at the first sign of failure.
P.S. Widnes > Crusaders.
